Looking for places where you can try out the different Scratch JLM Wedge grinds. Have tried the online fitting guide which has given me a recommended grind, but would prefer to give them a try first-hand as they are quite an expensive purchase.

They are made from forged 1018 soft carbon steel, have golf ball friendly u-grooves (more aggressive on 57* & above). But what most interests me is the sole grind options that most OEM wedges lack. Hopefully selecting a grind that works best with your swing should make shots easier and more consistent. For anyone curious:

PDG Grind
For Sweeper / Slider (shallow angle of attack, little to no divots, often thin mishits)
The lower bounce angle and thinner sole help prevent the club from bouncing off the turf, causing a thin shot. The higher camber allows the ball to be swept off the turf. The generous trailing edge relief allows the club to open without the leading edge coming off the ground

TNC Grind
For Driver / Slider (moderate angle of attack, small to medium divots, fat & thin mishits)
The reduced bounce angle and trailing edge relief makes effective bounce lower when the face is square. A full heel and toe create a higher bounce wedge when open for bunker play. While rainling edge relief allows the leading edge to sit closer to the ground for high, soft shots around the green.

EGG Grind
For Driver / Slider (moderate angle of attack, small to medium divots, fat & thin mishits)
Aggressive relief in the heel and toe and extreme trailing edge relief allow the leading edge to sit lower to the ground. The high bounce angle reduces the digging action on fuller shots, while the thin sole limits contact with the ground, preventing thin shots.

SFU Grind
For Digger / Driver (steep angle of attack, medium to large divots, often fat mishits)
A higher bounce angle and flat, non-cambered sole helps prevent fat shots. Aggressive asymmetrical heel and toe relief simulates a wider sole wedge when the face is square. The versatile relief allows the face to be opened around the green without greatly increasing the leading height.

SND Grind
For Digger / Driver (steep angle of attack, medium to large divots, often fat mishits)
A pure sand wedge. The high bounce angle with little camber or relief creates a high effective bounce angle when the face is square or opened up for sand play. The perfect complement to the SFU 58 or 60.

Well they (Sratch) are forged and have custom grinds available according to how you play/attack the ball.

Far more specialised and adjustable than oem brand offerings.

From what I've heard Scratch wedges spin well, with one golfer comparing them favourably with the Vokey SM:

The Callaway MDs might spin a bit more, as many consider them the best OEM wedge for spin. But they do chew up golf balls a lot and not everyone gets on with the PM grind.

I think the JLM wedges normally retail for around £130 in the UK.

However, noticed Golfsmith in the US are stocking the 56 & 60 models. Even with intl. shipping it only costs around £75. Might need to add around an extra 22% on for import duty, tax, and clearance fee if customs get a hold of it. But probably still a saving on the UK price though.

On the Scratch website, there is an FAQ section on why certain grinds are only an option on some lofts:

Some of our grinds are better for higher lofted wedges and some are better for lower lofted wedges. The EGG grind for example is designed to be a lob wedge grind for someone who needs a wedge that is versatile for opening the face around the green. This is something that is very common in a 60* wedge but not common or useful in a 53* wedge. Therefore the EGG grind is offered in 60* but not 53*.

Another example is the SND and SFU grinds designed for the Digger/Driver. The SND has no heel and toe relief and is best suited for fuller shots or other shots around the green with the face square. The SFU has aggressive heel and toe relief and is designed for versatility and opening the face of the wedge around the green. Because of the differences between these 2 grinds the SND is offered in 53* and 56*, lofts that are more likely to be used for fuller shots and other shots around the green with the face square. The SFU is offered in 58* and 60*, lofts that are more likely to be used for opening the face around the green.

That Golfsmith price is very keen. The RRP in the US is c. $200 if I recall correctly.

Even with duty that would be alot cheaper than the UK pricing.
