One thing thats really great about this game IMO is how helpful people are to us new starters. Having holed out on 5 & 6 on a par 3 & 4 respectively (having reached GIR) I was one of the guys suggested that I borrow his Zen training putter. Has a hole in the back to complete various drills with a 2nd ball.

Does anyone have any experience of using these?

I think that it improves things and certainly creates a bit of interest in practice sessions.

Ondai, sorry nobody has answered your post, though maybe thats an answer in itself.. However my experiance with Zen putters was at th Faro shopping centre on the Algarve, they had a exhibition going on there with pros showing you how to putt, they were quiet so I had half an hour with them I found it fascinating but no matter how I tried I couldnt get both balls in the hole I also found that I was concentrating so much on my stroke that line and length went out the window. these things are OK but you need to wield them in the heat of battle to find out how they behave,, Good Luck..

Mindthepond: Thanks.......sometimes the roar of ther crowd tells the story....

I think that messing around with one has improved my putting stroke.  However, it could be reasoned that I was so bereft of techinue that anything is an improvement...and the putter that I had been given isn't so great...

I think that I am in the market for a putter...

Zen putters are quality gear and the guys behind Zen are sound... they spend a lot of time on tour with the Pro's working on technique.

I wouldnt say that in terms of Joe Public, Zen have a huge profile but behind the scenes they have spent a lot of time developing putting mechanics training and related ideas and some leading edge product in terms of some of the R&D thats gone into it.

dont dismiss them just because of the deafening silence here!!!

Don know where you are based Ondai but if its anywhere north of Birmingham and south of Newcastle then you could do a lot worse than seeing what the Zen guys in Sheffield can do for you.

Also you might get a response from a guy called Exmax who works closely with the Zen guys...take note of what he says, he's a bit of a putting guru.

Fugitive: I wasn't necessarily dismissing them, it's just that I need to give the putter back to the guy who lent it me.

I think new Zen putters come in at around £100 and I was rather hoping I could get something for <£45...

Small less well known companies are interesting as I am prefer not to pay for a name.

I had the original Zen with the hole in the back, that came with a CD on how to use it as a training aid. Messed around with it but didnt like what it was trying to get you to do which is basically flick the ball(s) at the hole. As an on-course putter it wasn't anything special, but I found looking at the ground through the big hole kind of distracting, sort of a 2-ball putter but not as good.
