I am a 49 year old women who is fairly new to golf and I am just starting out on the main courses. Can anyone advise which are the best golf balls to buy? There seem to be a daunting array of them at our local shop and I don't know which ones to go for. Should I choose specialist Ladies ones? I can use a driver but only go about 130 yards so far. Thanks.

My personal view... they don't make that much difference at most golfers' levels. The expert view.... would suggest a slow speed swing is best matched with a low compression ball. I believe specialist ladies' balls are low compression, but a number of "generic" balls are also low compression - Dunlop LoCo; Maxfli Noodle; Nike Power Distance Super Soft; Precept Lady and Laddie; Titleist DT SoLo Of these, I would recommend the Precept Laddie / Lady or Nike Super Soft. For info - I'm not a big hitter by most people's standards, a good drive for me is around 200yds.

_of_18th_n_berwick.JPG) My wife finds the Lady Pinnacles pretty good. She even buys pink ones so she knows which is her ball.
If you are new, the ball you use won't make a lot of difference to you.
No need to buy top of the range -
130 off the tee is a good start! Some of the new ladies drivers with lots of loft are very good

Hi Judy I've been playing for just over a year and use the Lady Pinnacles Gold. As others have said, I don't think it makes a great deal of difference at the lower level. Welcome aboard - you might like to check out The Shambles thread.

Judy, Try the Callaway HX Pearls (they shimmer in the air and are very easy to spot on the fairway) also are nice three piece ball and very reasonable priced

Hi Judy My sister uses the Srixon ladies ball, fantastic choice with a nice pink alignment aid for driving and putting and designed to go further with a slower swing and not too expensive

My wife has used the Srixon Ladies ball and had been very happy with them. She also uses Wilson Staff LX2 which is a really good ball not dissimilar to the mens DX2 soft that I use.

Mmmm - I might give these a go next time I need to stock up.

My missus uses Titleist balls. She's had just about all the ladies golf balls and says the Titleist are better. Who am I to argue? One upside is they look like a golfer's golf ball rather than a girly accessory. "Trust your Titleist", or should it be "Trust the pink flourescent thingy"?

I'm easily swayed by the pink and sparkly options! I sometimes nick some of my sons old Pro V1s or Callaways - but of course it makes no difference whatsoever to my game, because I don't know how to put spin on the ball and all that stuff. (Oh - best clarify that his golf balls are not of the pink and sparkly variety. )

Hi Judy You should use Ladies Golf Balls - they look better - they are better suited to you - they are made for ladies - if you buy the pinacle pink ones money goes to charity - and they are ultimately less expensive than the other types. Enjoy
