OLDSCHOOL. Where do you get the weights to play with?

Hi

You can use any TM weights, look on Ebay, they have a few different sets. You need tool as well, so i would look at buying them from local pro shop and get them to fit weights.

Would be nice if they were included as a adjustment when you buy the putter.

For those of you tempted to have a punt on one of these, beware that the counterfeiters have got theirs out too....this is the type of place they come from: http://www.isailfull.com/goods.php?id=218

Expect to see a deluge of these on Ebay anytime soon (as happened with TM Rossa Monza's, Oddy Two-Balls etc), they're already on USA Ebay.

I wonder how many people would know the difference, or how to tell the difference (those pics look convincing). I would have thought a putter was one of the easiest things to copy ... a driver requiring more technology to get it right.

I'm sure many people would putt just aswell with a copy than with the original.

There are stories on US forums of the putters coming apart.

Also: there is a lot of tech in putters. In particular the tolerancing on the face loft angle (all important to ge tthe ball rolling well (or not...)), and the AGSI insert.

I had a fake Oddy White Steel and the steel insert in the face was poorly set, so it was actually at the wrong angle.

Ultimately, you get what you pay for. If you pay a cheap price on FakeBay, then your risk to end up with something sub-standard that does you no benefit (or the mug that it gets sold on to later).

Mateyas - ok shoved a pair of 14g weights in, replacing the stock 4g weights and took it out for a few holes in the pouring rain (light shower forecast) and it was MUCH better. Missed a 3 footer but drained everything else to the extent the missus said its not fair if I am gonna 1-putt every green.

Have a money match against a pro mate tomorrow, so will give it the full workout then.

Thanks for the tip.

Anyone using backweights in these putters yet.....

I used the Spider backweighted versus a pro mate for cash today.

On the 15th I turned it around, putted left handed with the back face making contact with the ball, and holed my first putt of the day. Felt and rolled the ball better that way.

Anyone wanna offer me £95 cash for it can have it. I'll even stump up the Paypal and postage fees and charges. Minto condition (really is) with original TM mint headcover.

Just an update.

Perseverance is paying off. Played a friendly today and was sinking 'em from all over the place.

It's a keeper for me, sorry to hear you didn't get on with it Creo.

Had mine a couple of weeks & found it sinks more long/medium putts than my previous 2 ball putter - 4 to 7 footers are still inconsistent.

I'm off to a Taylor Made demo next week for advice.  I'd like to try some heavier weights & maybe reduce the length from 34" to 32".  Anybody else shortened & found a benefit?

One problem I did notice playing in the downpours on Saturday, the OEM grip is quite hard & gets really slippery even wearing noslip rain gloves!  Oh well, if I chop the shaft, I'll be getting a new grip anyway.

Any suggestions for grips?  I quite liked the slightly fatter/soft grips on the GEL putters I tried out a the London golf. No idea what would be similar.

Played 27 holes this week with the spider, not to impressed, not the magic wand that i have read about on some review and forums.  Isnt any better than my 2 ball srt or the monza rossa.  Missed about 5 putts 3-4 feet, only miss about 1or2 per round normally from that range.  Will keep working with and see, usually putt better when falling out and changing back to my older putters...
