Hi all I thought that I had had the most amazing fortune to find an absolute bargain on ebay. I have managed to procure an odessey dual force (the putter my original cheapo copy that I loved was based on!) as part of a cheapo set which was badly photographed and described. However when I got the set it turned out that the shaft was bent (I know, I know - you get what you pay for!). I have managed to straighten it a bit, however it still has a slight kink in the shaft. It is useable, but I would like to get it properly straightened. Is this possible to do (I think I have seen this advertised in proshops, but I'm not certain!). If so, how much would it be, and if not is it possible to get an odessey putter reshafted in this country and where would I do this? Many thanks in advance BB

 If it has a kink/crease in it, not a chance. You may be able to bend it a little but it will break at some stage, usually when you least want it to.

It doesn't have a kink or crease in it at all (thankfully!) I think that I used the wrong word there! It has a slight bend in it would be more accurate, the shaft is still 'unblemished' (eg no streching marks, or kinks, etc).

It depends where the bend is as to whether this tip will work. - Get a full roll of kitchen towel (or as near to full) and place on edge of bench
- Find the middle of the bend and place it over the edge of the table right on top of the paper towel
- Grip above and below the bend
- Don't go mad - bend it back to where it ought to be!
It may take a few goes, steel has a memory and will try to spring back, but you will get a feel for it the more bends it takes.

 If that fails then stick a new shaft in it, this will be failry cheap to do.

Thanks Doodles, where would I go to get a new Odyssey/similar shaft fitted? Sorry for the total lack of knowledge. Unfortunately that's the by-word for my golf game too! BB

The shaft in the Odyssey was a proprietary shaft which means getting an exact duplicate means going back to Callaway. The replacements that are made have slightly more offset, and need to be bent slightly upright, ie, they are no exact duplicates.

So a replacement shaft will not put me in the same position relative to the ball as the original shaft would have done? Is it possible to get it as similar as possible through bending the shaft?

It is possible to get it exact by sending it back to Callaway.

I haven't used it on a green yet, but on my carpet with one of the silly little cheapo putting cups it most certainly is! I have managed to almost perfectly straighten the shaft now, but the grip is now out of line with the head of the club! Of the two problems, this is the one that I'd rather have because it needs a new grip anyway! Many thanks to everyone who's given advice! BB
