Now I'm confused?  Nike platinums low spin?  Inesis tour just as good as Pro V1x?

Here's my understanding from experience and jargon

High spin Premium

Pro V1, Nike Platinum, Bridstone 330s and 300, Srixon ZURC and ZURS, Callaway HX Tour and tour 56, Taylormade Black

Low Spin Premium

Pro V1x, Nike Black, Taylormade Red

I would encourage every high handicapper to use the high end premium balls to ensure they are getting the most out of their games.

For a few extra quid you get that extra performance that the pro's demand, if it is good enough for them, they are good enough for you. So dip your hand in your pocket and get the most from your game.

And when you slice them into the trees it saves me a bloody fortune in decent golf balls. Nice one

I play with AD333 or Nike Distance flight. Both mid priced and good performance all round with the Srixon a bit softer around green and Nike a bit longer off the driver.

Alternatively I play the ProV1s I find - thank god for gullible hackers.

Scoopa, apologies.  It is the Maxfli Revolution Tour and I have about a dozen left.  Still like them as they fly and putt well.  I'd like to say they also spin well but I can't do backspin

If I want to buy high end premium balls then I tend to buy the ones that have been replaced at half price in the sales.  Still good but just not "the next best thing".

Certainly go along with playing one model only as you do get used to the distance you can hit with it and also the putting feel and distance.

I use Pinnacle Exceptions for social play and practice. They go as far as most balls, feel okay off the putter, and I bought a few boxes cheap when they went out of production. Have tried AD333s and like those too, both much better than the old hard 2-piece balls.

However, for competitions I wanted a ball which would stop quicker round the greens and maybe give me an extra few yards. Having a slow swing and high handicap, I don't think I'd really be able to get the best out of the ProV1s etc, so one quiet evening I did a comparison test of 3 mid-price (£20 a dozen or thereabouts), 3-piece balls, a few holes and a session on the practice hole hitting 7-irons, then pitches and chips:

Titleist NXT Tours: lovely feel around the greens, stop on a sixpence, decent but not spectacular distance; but seemed to slice more, especially off my driver, than the other two. Would happily play them, though.

Taylor Made TP Burner: I know all balls are the same weight, but these felt like they were made out of tungsten. They're so solid at contact that you think it's gone miles - but walking up to the balls I always reached the TM before the other two makes. I also thought they sounded "dead" compared to the other two, and I couldn't stop them on a short pitch. I think a lot of this might be that they're tuned to players with a faster swing than mine, but I won't be buying any more.

Srixon Trispeed: As nice a ball as any to putt with, stops almost as well as the NXTs, goes slightly further and slightly straighter, and a couple of quid a dozen cheaper. My new comp ball of choice.
