I have been mulling over whether to buy an electric trolley for some time now and bee thinking that maybe I'm not old enough at 32. But playing in the roll-ups on Saturday and Sunday mornings I've noticed more and more players using leccy trolleys and the decision has very little to do with age... Maybe just a bit of common sense and long-term injury prevention!

Anyway, once the decision was made it was time to choose a trolley. Looked at the usual suspects such as Powerkaddy and Motocaddy as well as Go-Kart, Hill Billy (hired the old model for a round in Portugal and wasn't impressed) as well as Powerbug and Powerpro.

M first choice was to get a Motocaddy S1 pre-owned from their own website, but by the time I had decided to go for it, the option was no longer available!

I ended up going for the Power Pro Sport 250 (the actual brand name is Energy when it arrived). At £169.99 and 2 year warranty for the 18 hole version it looked good so I took the plunge.

The verdict:

It's a great looking trolley, based on the Powerkaddy design and has a very good build feel to it

Very easy to assemble and comes with a carry bag included in the £169.99

When I got it going in the car park I thought it wasn't working! The motor takes a bit of time to kick in - and although a bit frustrating, this really is the only issue I found with it over 2 rounds this weekend. It just takes a while to kick into gear... Turn the knob and wait a couple of seconds until it gets up to speed - you get used to it after a coupler of holes.

No problems with steep inclines or through knee high rough (sorry, it's the way I play!) and overall I'm very happy with it.

£169.99 - you get a very, very good product at a very, very competitive price - the positives far outweigh the negatives (also forgot to mention the before 12.00 next day free delivery) so give it a look if you are in the market for a new leccy trolley.

I agree with 1 Over - 32 and buying an electric trolley is a disgrace! I'm 32 and haven't even thought about getting a manual trolley yet!

Nice work Monkey

Of course I would have recomended the Gokart to you being an owner myself, but having said that I sincerely hope that the trolley youve choosen continues to give excellent service to you.

Your quite correct by the way regarding age and owners of leccies, I got mine because I didnt want to expend energy dragging my gear round the course, I wanted to use that for the game, and in that repect its paid dividends, much less tired toward the end of a round even in hot conditions when that orange ball in the sky turns up once in a while.

Each to their own but I for one am happy with my choice of transporting my equipment around the course, even got the kitchen sink in the bag.

I'm 36 and extremely large and still carry my bag.

Must admit i have been mulling over a leccy trolley. Still only 35, but with a fairly bad back and dodgy shoulders from too much rugby i have started to use a pull trolley, but find the twisting motion can be just as bad as the carrying. If i can find someone with a GoKart so i could have a look at it before buying that might make my mind up, don't fancy any of the more traditional trolleys as only have a small hatchback and would be a bit cramped when i take more than just me to the course.

Agree with Kefkef, I was given a pull trolley but found it worse than carrying.

I think it's funny how the macho side hits the golfing world, whether it be electric trolleys over carrying or blades vs cavity backs.

To me golf is about hitting a little ball with a stick and getting it in the hole.  How you transport those sticks and balls around the course is a matter of personal choice but to put an age on when you should carry, pull or use a leccy trolley is a bit daft.

I admit I used to consider electric trolleys to be an old mans tool but I realise now that viewpoint was a mixture of vanity, pride and naivity.  I now use a GoKart (although the use was more forced on me as I have a dodgy knee) and I say if you want one, go for it and feel better at the end of the round.  The livelier you feel the better your concentration.

I still have a carry bag for the winter when the leccy trolleys are banned  but otherwise push the button and go.

Carrying is a totally misplaced macho thing. If was any good for your game Tiger Woods would do it.

As it is, even the youngest pro on even the most junior tour doesn't carry his bag, even if it means he has to fork out three quid for a handle in the pro shop.

And yes, I have a PowaKaddy (but then I'm older than you !!).

Kefkef, if you get in touch with GoKart they will normally send you a trial one to have a go with for a bit.

Monkey I bought a Power pro sport from Costco last year and it is a great trollye no problems with it at all, but agree about the motor, a cracking piece of kit and makes it a lot easier than pulling or carrying. Sod the Macho men there only jealous cos they can't afford or wife wont let them buy one!!!
