Went to the range today and wanted to try somthign diffrent. i normally play with mizzy mx-900's stiff shaft and do pretty well.
i thought as im getting better ill take the blades out and work on my ball striking. took the mizzy TP-18's out the cupboard, and went down the range.
i dunno if its a really fair test as the TPs are what 18 years old though they havent had much use they still have the original shafts and grips. where the mx's are maybe 2 years old.
i started with the shorter irons first. The first thing i noticed was that, with the TPS the ball stopped alot quicker, but the further up the irons i went the distance gap began to grow wider n wider.
by the time i was on the 6 iron the distance diffrence was about 30 yards. to the mx's
i tired to do some shaping draw and fades which is very easy to do with the TP's not hard with the MX's but not as freely.
I moved to the 5,4,3. the Tps where getting harder n harder to hit well the 5 was ok the 4 was really hard the 3 was well, it felt like the head was the size of a putter with a sweet spot the size of a pea.
I hit it 20 times and only one short would have been course worthy. and my 3 iron hybrid went 20 yards further anyway.
in summary, i was just saying to somone the other day, equiptment matters less the better you get. i guess it matters more than i thought.
Tps were nice clubs till the 5 iron then, they became a bit evil! Thank god for mordern technogly, and my easy to hit MX's!
