I've been thinking for a while about getting properly custom fitted for a putter.  More than anything I think it would extinguish the doubts in my mind about whether my current putter is set up the best it could be for me.  Or am I actually using a putter which could harm my game.

Has anyone been to the fitting centre at Yes in Southport?

What did you get out of it?

Would you recommend it?

For the rest of the guys and gals who haven't been.  What alternatives have you used for your putter fitting?

Didn't actually know they had one to be honest, but I do like yes putters so I may be tempted. The last one I had was awesome for anything under 10 feet, but longer putts were hard to get there.

My putting is shocking so my alternitive is grin and bear it!

BoB - if you do go could you check out their new wedges? I've got a Yes Marilyn, not custom fitted, just cut down as I'm a short ar$e as you know - I've tried loads of others but haven't really found anything as nice. The possible exception is a Rife 2 bar or some such model that has adjustable weights etc that I tried in a shop the other day. I've got a notion that you may already have one on the Swap thread??

Didn't even know yes did wedges! The website is shocking though, the wedge page was obviously written by someone who's first language is not that of English!

How can you expect to sell a product for £100 when you can't even explain your own technology...

Hi Sean,

I know all about you being vertically challenged   But you do give the ball a fair whack for your size.

Putting is the worse part of my game..period, my Drivings OK, Irons OK, Chipping and Pitching OK, but my putting is woeful and is holding me back.

I've tried various putters...Blades, Heel Toe, Centre Shaft, Face Balanced even a Heavy Putter and although I'm putting better with a face balanced centre shaft putter.  Its always in my head that maybe I could be better if I was properly fitted.

I know that nagging feeling - you're head won't settle until you get on and do it. Hope you get it sorted. There is a UK based guy called Paul Murrion, I think, that the pros use for this sort of thing - think there may be an article somewhere on here about him?

I went for a fitting there.

It was an offer of a free fitting if you bought a putter. Spent a good 45 mins on the SAM putting lab, etc & tried all their putters in all sizes & shapes & got a quick free putting lesson as well.

Well worth the trip in my opinion

Do you still use the putter then Daff??

What model did you go for and why??

Has it improved your putting??

Pro mate went for the one day coaching session there which included fitting.

He raved about it, the putter, the technique etc etc.

3 weeks later he was back to using his un-fitted old 2-ball.

Dunno if thats representative, or not.

I went for the Hannah model. A lovely putter...............but I'm not using it at the minute!

I've gone to a much shorter Never Compromise Voodoo Daddy. Don't know why really, but I just seemed to lose confidence & I think that's a major part of putting.

Would still recommend the fitting however, as I had a great time & spoke to & was fitted by Harold Swash's grandson, Andy.

Well, I've booked it

It will at least lift some of the lingering doubts about whether I'm using the right bat for the job.  I will know once and for all if it's user error or not

will be intersting to see  how you get on

remember your sam stats at the uk golf show  and the difference before and after ?

Let me know when you are in town and we may be able to arrange a game!

I went around about 4 mths ago, mainly for a lesson using the SAM system but also to listen to the well recommended instructor Phil Kenyon. I was averaging low 80's mid-high 70's with 33 - 34 putts per round, so you can understand why i needed to see him.

Anyway i paid £120 for 2 hrs ( instruction only ) and can ony speak positively of it. You cannot go unless you are willing to COMPLETELY change, after all Yes are method coaches, and teach what they believe to be the best method ie eyes directly over the ball, short putter, square back and through stroke. I also had my existing Yes putter adjusted for how my new stroke was going to be.

Four months down the line, im now averaging 31 putts per round and could not be happier, I am due to go up to see Phil for more feedback from the SAM and to see how i am progressing next month.

But in golf compared to the money spent on super-duper drivers etc circa £399, this has been the best money i have spent IMHO.

I went on a one-day course with Harold Swash and his grandson Andrew last year. The day was excellent, and included a putter fitting.

I ended up with a 31 inch Natalie, which has improved my putting considerably (i'm 5'10).

The whole day was only £300, a bargain!

I was fitted for a putter at Clay's GC. Very much the same thing as they do at the Yes centre. ie get your eyes over the ball by shortening the putter and adjusting the loft and lie.

I would recommend it strongly. I am a poor putter and very much a confidence putter and having a putter or 2 that are set up for me helps me greatly.

BTW I was away with some friends last week. One of the guys borrows one of my putters which has been fitted for me (32" and 4degree flat lie) and he falls in love with it. He had his best putting week in recent memory. He even persuaded me to swap his Scotty for my fitted Scotty. What can I say, I didn't have the heart to tell him where to go. My point being the shorter putter works for most people yet most people stick with the standard 35". So go and get fitted, you won't regret it.

I'm looking forward to it now, played our club championship over the weekend.  Solid 74 on day one with some really good up and downs to keep me in contention, followed by the second round in an absolute hurricane. e.g 120 to pin and buttoned a 4 iron *(normally around a 190 yard club) straight and true, neve left the flag and came up 10 yards short of the green!!  I finished Tied 3rd but if I could have bought a couple of putts could have run away with the trophy I won last year.

True Blue - I'm only off for the day, so it's a drive over the Pennines for my fitting and then a drive back over to the proper side of them .
