I go round in the low 90's and do hit a far longer ( yes and straighter) wood than my standerd suggests , I.E my iron play relatively sucks
.
I know almost every golfer has an ' I hit my driver x yards ' story so I wont quote yards but I only hit a 3 wood off the T and my cobra f speed 3 wood usually out 'drives' those I play with who are without a doubt far far better golfers than I am and hitting drivers. Admitedly I do hit my woods very low indeed but the golf pro says right on stick to that avoid the wind.
My dad who is 72 and plays off of 9 handicap and chatting he recently told me he now swears by his 7 and nine woods. As a result I have just purchased a 7 wood Cobra F speed LD and I have to say it is a right result for me. It requires almost the same
' wood swing' as the 3 and I hit if far better than a mid iron and I am now thinking mmm forget utility what about a 9 wood. Sadly on research I cant get a mens 9 wood LD as they are not as fashionable as their wood equivelent. I'm looking at another reasonable quality 9 wood 2nd hand to experiment with.
I dont think clubs are a cure all but I do think trying different equipment is one of the enjoyable parts of the game.
Anyway my vote goes out to LD woods and not out of blind loyalty , they just really do perform for me, would love a 9
