Hi everyone, Due to the head snapping off my current driver, I'm searching for a new one! I've recently bought a set of MD Toungsten irons and I'm really impressed with them, so I decided to look into their drivers. As far as I can see, there are two different ones; the normal shape and the square one. There's also the BlackHawk one which I can get for £65. The normal shape one comes with Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue graphite shaft, whereas the square one comes fitted with a UST Proforce 65 Tip Active shaft. If anyone can give me any advice, tips or recomendations it would be much appreciated! Cheers, Steven

I'd be interested to know as well. I'm an MD addict (12 out of the 14 in my bag are MD and I have three overspills too), but for some reason have never tried their drivers. I do know that the Blackhawk range could be seen as their budget range (which is odd, from a budget manufacturer), while the Superstrong EQLs are their premier clubs. The normal shape looks very similar to my MD 3 wood, and that is a beast - the ball flies off like a rocket... when I get it together enough to make decent contact that is.

Nice to know! I've got 3-PW and a 60* wedge from there, really good clubs for the money!
I think the normal shaped driver seems like a steal at only £60. If you were to get one, which loft and shaft would you like? I would like 10.5* I think, but not sure about the shaft...

Steven, After owning the MD Superstrong EQL 10.5* for two weeks now and playing 6 rounds of Golf with it, I can now say that without doubt this is a.... wait for it.... A very Ordinary Driver! Its not overly long but does hit the ball on a nice Flight, I paid £75 for it. The Shaft and grip are Quality Actually this is the Second one I've had in two weeks, as the First, The one with the Proforce 65 shaft Developed a Crack in the Hosel after 4 Drives! I'd like to say it was my powerful swing that made the crack, But its wasn't. I changed it But unfortunately I couldn't get the same version, So I ended up with the 10.5* Graffalloy Prolaunch Blue Version. I think it is slightly easier to hit than the Proforce version in that you can swing easier and get the same results! The sound is weird, Its very muted, Infact my mate says it sounds like the Crunch of a fist hitting somebodies face (Don't ask...He's Not called Mad Freddie for nothing!) Would I recommend it?.. Well If you want a good Budget Driver or are an MD Golf Fanatic! Sure, Go for it, But I would have probably not bought it if I hadn't needed a Driver Quickly and a little more time to choose!

Thanks for your honest opinion, 1 and over. So... you're being nice now Have you ever tried the square one? I wonder how it compares to the standard shape driver. As I said, at the moment I have no driver at all, so anything would be an improvement

Not the MD one but I did own a Masters MC-z910 Square driver, I think I mentioned it before that I gave it to my brother who destroyed his Dunlop 65 a few months ago and needed a new driver. It was ok, But VERY, VERY LOUD, It scared the pants off me and I was Hitting it! Another reason for letting him have it was that I got fed up with everybody turning round on the range to see what was making them all deaf! Re:- being nice to you! Sorry Fella but Rules is Rules ~ ergo you are a Haggishead and me are a Londoner so I have to Belittle and abuse you at every opportunity! and in return I expect nothing less from you! As a fellow Shambler you will catch on soon enough! All to be taken in the lighthearted and fun way its meant to be!!

OK, This is where the buyer has to be carefull as there are a few sellers pulling the wool over buyers eyes. There are currently two ranges of the Superstrong Drivers on the market. One last years, they are fitted with with the graffoloy shafts and are availble in both normal and square. Some sellers are selling these on ebay as the current model, Which they arent! The one you linked is priced about right. The current models ( both square and normal) are fitted with the proforce 65 or V2 shaft and you wont get it for any less than around £90. So just be a little bit carefull when you choose to buy especially off ebay. The reviews for the new square driver are really high both on todays golfer and National club golfer, can be found on the internet. I have the MD EQL Square Draw Fitted the older model, is it any good? I can not really see a huge amount of difference between it and my old R7 quad apart from the £100 quid price difference. Dont expect them to be a miracle cure i bad swing will result in a bad result. Distance wise i havent seem any loss in distance. For a cheap try on the driver front the £54 is probably the way to go, the seller you have linked is pretty good also.

Thanks for clearing that up, Aces! I didn't know there was a new model which came with the standard shape, I thought it was only the square one. I currently have this driver - Plus 10 I bought it off the golf channel about 1 year ago, but the head has now snapped off. Is there anywhere I could perhaps get it repaired?

yeah take it to a pro shop, he will be able sort it out, although will cost you a price of a new shaft and fitting, probably in the region of £50.

It hasn't really snapped off, it's just come clean off the bottom. The shaft and head are still in good condition, I think it just need re-fitted. I would try it myself but wouldn't want it miss-aligned. I could take it to AGD and see what they say.

Steven Would you trust your kids to the care of a babysitting service called "NONCES R US" ??? No, I Didnt think so! Don't trust AGD/Nevada Bobs with any repair work or so called custom Fitting service! go to a Pro shop at your Course and get a Real Profesional to work on it! I wouldn't even trust the spotty herberts to fit a Grip, Let alone a full shaft! Plus 10 Huh! So you were the one who bought it!

I have the 2007 Model EQL Square driver with the Graffalloy Blue shaft. I bought it for £65.00 all in from the bay and my opinions of it are that it has helped me to hit much straighter drives but it is not quite as long as my Ping G2. That said 230 on the fairway is better than 250 in the trees. For the money you can get one for i would say it is a steal but as with all clubs you will still hit bad shots so do not expect miracles.

.jpg) I own a MD Blackhawk (2005 range I think) driver as a backup club. I bought it on a whim for £15 brand new, back in the day pricebustergolf were doing some great deals and I was curious of the hype MD golf were receiving.
As with all MD clubs the club is built with quality components for cheaper money than competitors. Thats all good.
Thats not to say that its going to be the right driver for you personally. As with all clubs, try one out and see what you think.
The one I have has a regular grafalloy prolite 45(?) shaft in it. Be warned, this shaft gives a high launch and is a disgrace in windy conditions. I have to say that I can put no effort whatsoever into the swing and the ball will fly straight approx 200/210 yards. If you really chase after the ball and put a big swing on it then you can get more distance but the shaft doesn't seem to like it and more often than not the ball doesn't go straight.
Thats how the club works in my hands anyways.
Now for me that distance is not good enough. Hence the club is sat gathering dust.
However, for a beginner / learner a drive of 200 yards straight down the fairway is brilliant and for the money you can probs get hold of one for, then its definately worth a punt!

why dont you try powerbilt slugger

I have the EQL squared driver (Last year's model) I really like mine but can't honestly say whether it is better or worse than other driver's out there as I've not tried many others. I've had no problem with mine, the build quality seems good and they are unquestionably value for money. Better to try one of these out than splash out £200 plus on a premium brand one if you aren't really sure what you want.
