Stand/Carry Bags...

I recently purchased some clubs and a bag, I am new to the sport and am about to take my first lesson on Sunday.

I have been told to bring my clubs. However, my bag is a full size trolley bag, and I don't really want to take the bag and trolley down for my first lesson. Is it worth investing in a slim stand bag to take to the course? as I take it that in the beginning I won't need all of my 13 clubs?

I was thinking of something along the lines of this:

I welcome any thoughts!
James.

Hi James,

You'll find it useful to have a stand bag in the winter, when a lot of courses ban trolleys. I've no experience of the Trilogy bags, but at £20, the Trilogy is very cheap indeed! Probably a good first bag if you're thinking of waiting a while before upgrading, but it might be a false economy. If you can afford it now, I'd spend a bit more and get one to last a good while?

Sun Mountain are fantastic bags if you do spend a bit more.

Enjoy your golf!

I eventually replaced my Sun Mountain/Powakaddy combo with a Titleist x86 bag. I can honestly say this has been one of my best decisions since taking up Golf last year. I so much prefer to carry now, can walk direct lines to my ball, helps a bit with fitness and I honestly feel less tired towards the end of the round.

I tried a few bags out as recommended by the helpful guys on this forum and the Titleist edged it. It stands up better than any I've come across even on the steep slopes at my local course Lullingstone. Comfortable to carry, lighweight and enough room for waterproofs and plenty of balls !

Paddy - welcome to the x86 club!

I've had mine 6 months+ now - 75+ rounds later it's still as good as new, only gripe is it isn't the most waterproof bag.

I see you play at Lullingstone - haven't played there for some years - assume it's still as hilly as ever?

Hi Darren,

Still hilly as ever. I played a ball at waist height on the 4th last weekend!

Still a fantastic challenge, I always score better when I play elsewhere.

Can i get to Lullingstone by public transport? I live in Tunbridge Wells but don't drive

You can get a train to Orpington or Shoreham or Eynesford, then a short taxi ride. Orpington furthest away, but more frequent trains, I imagine. Don't think there's any bus stops near it, I'm afraid.

Call them on 01959 533 793 to check?
