I have space for one more club in my bag but im a little unsure what to replace it with

I currently have

Macgregor Mactec driver 10.5
Ram FX9 3 and 5 wood
Benross 20. Rescue
Benross vx5 irons 4 -SW
Benross Ripple SL putter

If I was to be honest id admit I find myself using my shorter irons more than anything.

And to add im a Leftie and havent been playing very long... can anyone see an obvious gap in my kit? Any suggestions would be great

Cheers

Assuming your PW is 47* and sandwedge 56* how about a Gap Wedge to fit in the middle - something like a 52*

You could try a lob wedge. 60 deg or even 64 deg.

Can be a better option thatn SW out of bunkers aswell as for the lob shot.

Another mate suggested a lob wedge but i'm not having much luck finding one thats not in a kit.

As you can probably tell im a fan of Benross clubs and if i could get one with a graphite shaft i'd be over the moon.

Any suggestions, or am I being too fussy?

Cheers

Like the suggestions above, reckon you probably need either a 50 or 52 degree gap wedge - you'll find these very versatile especially if you go for a low bouce so you can use out of wet bunkers as well as from 80 yards in and for little chips just off the green... And we all know how wet it's been and will remain for the forseeable future!

Other option is maybe a 60 degree lob wedge - handy for when you've got an obstacle right in front of you but not little else unless you are a pretty good ball striker.

Have a look at the wedge section on golfbidder.co.uk - you can pick up some Titlesist Vokeys on good condition for less that£50 (I have a 50/08, 56/12 and 60/04)

Probably worth going to one of the big sports stores with a golf section to get a cheap lob wedge .... use it for a season and then get a better one.

Here's a link to all of the left handed wedges on Golfbider!

Also will be quite hard to find a wedge fiited with a graphite shaft me thinks...as distance is less important than accuracy, a stiff or wedge flex steel shaft is the way to go.

The adage:

4 woods, 4 wedges is a good one..........................

No harm in substituting a wood for a rescue.

Have you tried lefthanded golf.co.uk ????

Do you notice a big difference between your 20 degree hybrid and your (i guess) 19 degree 5 wood?

If not, you could always dump one of there and play four wedges (PW, GW, SW and LW).

Although I am by no measure a "good" golfer, I find at least this helps my club selection - I was always torn between my 3 iron and 5 wood on long approches/safe tee shots.

For lob wedges, try Progen or MD golf. The former are very good for budget irons. Would suggest a graphite shaft in an approach iron would be a waste of money... stick to steel.

I have a driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, rescue club 24 degrees, 5 to 9 irons, PW, 58 degree wedge, 64 degree wedge and a putter.

That is enough to choose from in a round, so my 14th club is a left-handed 7 iron.

I'm right-handed but can hit it left-handed 40 or 50 yards straight, most rounds it sits in the bag but it occasionally comes in very useful when the wrong side of a tree/hazard/bunker.

Get rid of the 5 wood, your rescue club more or less duplicates this anyway. Then you'll have space for 2 new clubs and these should definately be a gap and lob wedge (IMHO you just cannot carry enough wedges)!

There are some stonking deals on Cleveland wedges I believe, and the Ben Ross range seem to be well regarded & quite affordable (plus if you are buying a brace of the things it gives you extra bargaining power with the retailer i.e. I love Vokey wedges & because I purchased two spin milled jobbies at the same time I got them for £100).

As a matter of interest I regularly play with a 12 handicapper who only carries a driver on very exceptional occasions, as his 3 wood delivers only 5-10 yards less distance, but he has 5 wedges in his bag - and a devastatingly efficient short game!
