Hi I have only been playing a few weeks, and am looking for the best value balls to buy. I'm not after hundreds, just 50 or so to fill the gap (no, I'm not going to eat them!). I am a student, and therefore comparatively poor, so am looking for good balls at a good price. If anyone could suggest some brands/retailers/packages then I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

Try the Dunlop Loco, not bad ball for the price, can be picked up at Sports World / Sports Direct. Well suited to a beginner and cheap enough to loose without to many worries

 Cant go to wrong with Wilson Ultra, cheap goes a fair way, not to punishing for a beginner's unwanted spin inducing shots and lack of stop wont matter as winter is now here

 I second the Dunlop Locos. Work out at about 30p a ball, and they're a lot better/softer than other balls at that price - which are usually just rocks.

 Get yourself down to JJB and buy 3 boxes of Slazenger Raw Distance. £10 for 18 and if you buy 2 boxes you get a third free. Used them myself and they are not too bad. Don't buy anything from Sports Soccer/Sprts Direct as you will be supporting Kevin Keegan's slayer!

 James - keep your eye on e-bay for bargains from reputable sellers. There are lots available if you're not too fussy about what make you want.

 I agree wth Tin Cup, Ebay is good - especially for lake balls. Go for Pearl or grade A ones, they can look like new. Some sellers do sell any old crap as grade A however, but you soon learn who to ignore.

 I almost agree with True Blue but would say go instead for the Slazenger Black Ice. They are 20% more expensive than the Raw Distance (ie 54 balls for £24 instead of £20!) but have nicer feel on putts. My Dad, handicap 18, plays them.

 Consider the brand suggestions above, then buy them on Ebay as lake balls (pearl or grade A) from an established seller. Or visit your local courses and rummage in the used (=found) balls box for the brand you want. They usually work out at 20-25p each for pearl/grade A quality.

 I've just bought These and they are like new, really hard to fault them. You get a good ball for a very cheap price. Look at the sellers shop if you don't play Srixons, he has loads of others for auction, but watch out for the prices..... I got mine for £16 but I have seen the same lot go for as much as £25, just be prepared to wait a few days, they come up pretty regular.

Do yourself a favour and pop into your local charity shops.
I know a number of old boys / dog walkers tend to donate a good number of grade A balls to some charity shops.
I find all sorts of makes from dunlop ddh's all the way up to Titleist Prov1's.
I get em for 10p a pop.
Plus, you're helping out a charity.

 If they are dirty, soak them in a bowl of bleach & water for a couple of hours and they come up a treat!
