Was talking to a Pro yesterday and they said my grips may be a bit too thin and should try a slighly larger grip on one clubs to see how I get on before regripping the whole lot .My current grips are Ping White. When I grip the club the tips of my fingers go under the fleshy part of my thumb slightly, hence the reason the pro thinks slightly bigger grips may be required. I had been looking at getting some Sharpro's from Gamola golf. Can anyone advise if the Sharpro Midsize +1/32" will be bigger than the Ping Std Grip or is there no consistancy between manufacturers and I should go with Ping Yellows. Thanks

Ste, I have Sharpro midsize on all my clubs bought from Gamola (who are great btw). They are noticably bigger than standard grips and I feel that the bigger grips have contributed to my increased consistency. Getting one swapped is a good idea but make sure it is on a club you use often (ie7/6 iron) . IF you search on net there should be some charts for grip size to hand measurements. What size glove do you wear ?

Only wear a glove if it is wet/raining or if my hands are sweaty. When I do its only a medium, but I like them really snug. May be I should go for standard size in the Sharpro and put a couple of extra wraps of tape on it. I guess its just trial and error

I've got small hands but have standard Sharpro grips (from Gamola who is A1) with 4 wraps of tape. If you get standards and try one 'fatted' up to start with you can reduce the number of wraps if they aren't right. If you go midsize you obviously can't make them smaller.

At the price from Gamola I am currently trying 4 different grips before deciding which one to re-do the set in the winter. I am probably edging towards the 1/2 cord dual compound one that looks like the Golf Pride although the standard full cord is putting in a spirited fight. Personally I would try a few.

U need to match the butt size of the shaft to the matching grip core size.. ie 600 butt shaft 600 grip core...... if u mix and match all will be on the pis s

Gamola sent me a grip size conversion chart which tells you how many wraps to have on different butt sizes etc. If anyone wants it send me a message and I'll email it..........

I have a quick reference "chart" here that gives the butt size to grip size values, and how different grip sizes on different butt sizes effect the size. The problem with selecting grips is that with grip sizing charts (and by that I mean deciding on the correct grip size remotely) is that they do not take into account (nor can they) how it feels to the individual. If it feels right then it is, if it feels too small it is, if it feels too large it is. Sounds too simple in these days of spin rates, launch angles, and so on - but it really comes down to the material and how you feel. What I always suggest to people is that they find a favourite grip size they like, take it to the fitter and get it measured, and ask for it to be made to those specs as it is not that difficult to do. You will also find that some materials feel thinner than others, although they measure exactly the same, but it just keeps coming back to the feel to the individual.

Probably .600, you can get them measured, or contact Ping as their customer service is usually pretty good.

Spoke to Ping and their grips are all .600. Also spoke to Gamola golf. They said putting a .580 grip on a .600 shaft is the equivalent of putting a .600 grip on with acouple of layers of tape.

Putting a 60 grip on a .600 shaft gives you a "standard" grip size. Putting a 58 grip on a .580 shaft gives you a "standard" grip size. Putting a 58 on a .600 butt gives you +1/64". If you put a 60 on a .600 with a couple of layers of build-up tape you will come out at +1/32". Based on the assumption that each layer of build-up tape adds approx 1/64" or .010. I hope that hasn't confused things more !
