hi everyone,

first post on the site so hello again!! anyways, have been taking my golf more seriously the last 3 or 4 months and managed to bring my handicap down from about 28 to 20. but struggling to get down much further. currently playing with some ram concept x irons that were bought as part as a package. anyway so here comes the question, will a new set of irons make alot of difference and if so what you recomend? have been eyeing up some mx-17's for £179 but not to sure what to go for. also would it be wort getting them fitted? my budget is probly around the £250 mark. any suggestions would be gratefuly received.

cheers

james

Bit like a pair of shoes...some that fit will be better than some that do not!

At set of mx-17s for that price seems good to me -  but best to have a go with several sets to set what works best.

Your best bet would be to get a second hand set from a proshop or golfbidder. It should be cheaper and a proshop may fit them to you but with golfbidder you can always return them within 7 days if youre not happy with them!

There are plenty of sets available at that sort of price so I'd follow Ian advice and try a few sets at that price (even if theyre not MX17/19s). You could be surprised by what feels best!

Try a driving range with a good pro shop, they should let you take a few 6 irons into the bays and hit away with them and see what you like.

You don't have to buy from them but that would at least give you a better idea of what you want to buy.
