 While we'er having a grumble i would like to see people hung drawn and quarted,perhaps thats going a bit to far, but theres nothing worse than hitting your ball into a bunker to find out that the yetti has been playing in it and has'nt raked the sand after him as if sand is hard enough to play out of we have to contend with it lying in a hoofprint.And some even walk past the rake play their shot must be back problems .Is it just on my course or is it a common thing?

Its great to hear everyones pet hates and I acn see the problems are the same all over.
With the growing popularity of the game, things are only going to get worse and there is little you can do about it. Besides, the more worked up you get about it, the worse your game suffers. Slow play is my pet hate but just accept it. Even in the US Open, they had to wait up to 40 mins (!!!) at some holes and were taking nearly 6 hours to play a round.

Got a slightly different spin on this whole soft spike story
1) I don't like softspikes because they always break! I have to replace at least a couple of them every 3-4 weeks, and getting the things out when there is only 1/2 of them left is a real pain
2) I like softspikes because when you accidentally trip over your £300 Titleist driver it doesn't leave a horrible gouge on the head which you have to stare at every time you want to take a shot. This is of course what happened to me...

Interestin angle Mark. It was a mate who tripped / stepped back onto my TM Ti bubble2 driver, but it still left the big scratch marks. He was wearing steel spikes.

As for the banning talks...How about banning all players in a group that take more than 4 hours (or 3...whatever the club decides is the right time) for the next month. They lose golfing rights for a month, because of slow play. I'd be all for it. These Americans back home don't know how to play quickly. A real bother. :)

Where i play a few years ago in stableford comps they penilised groups by taking points off if you where over 3 1/2 hrs which quite surprisingly speeded up play no end,unfortunetly they no longer do it and as a result times have crept back up to round 4 hrs for 3 a ball.
It stopped people putting out when they had no chance of scoring.

As for my Rupert Bear outfit, I don't have one, but if I find a retro golf shop, I might invest. I still think it should be encouraged though. Fantastic.

Because you slip more in soft spikes Martin, so you can't walk as fast. Obviously.
