Les as someone who has a quite few tats i take offence to you putting me in the nutter bracket,if you done some reserach you might find out that a lot of so called nutters are collar and tie jobs who get a kick out off anti social behaviour.

There is a course near where i live which is how shall i put this quite snobby a freind of mine is a member and he plays all the time in jeans when he asked about the dress code he was told jeans were fine,it's about £60 a round w/days must where a blazer in the bar only singles and foursomes get my drift but jeans ,well the world is full of surprises.

I'm not too sure about Martins' comments about mountain bikers either.

As usual the mistake is to make presumptions about people based on their looks, accents or (it seems)even their sports.

I ride mountain bikes a fair bit - up to 100 miles a week at times - I also go to punk rock concerts regularly, go to music festivals in the summer, play football once a week, have supported Leeds Utd since I was nine, have started kick boxing, have a fairly strong northern accent and yes have tats!

But on a golf course I dress as requested and observe the etiquette of the sport. That said, if a person looks "smart" they should be allowed on the course - shorts or not. The whole idea of a dress code is to keep the the overall appearance to an acceptable standard.

I like Mountain bikers - honestly - a funky sport where dress is really cool, colourful etc. Now stopping short of being shycophantic, it is refreshing to see someone of another shall we say "off the wall, extreme sport" adgering to the golf etiquette - nice - very nice!

WOuld I look like a complete pratt if I turned up mountain bking in a pair of plus fours! Of course I would.

And I agree with your comments, no matter how you dress, if you look smart, it's acceptable, as long as you are not bare chested and wearing flip flops, hardly suitablke attire, for golf and Mountain biking!

As for Tatoos, nothing wrong with them - it's up to the individual if they want to "personalise" themselves!

As for Mountain bikers - my comment previously was having a pop at a few (probably kids) who rode around our greens at WHGC.

I did cause much consternation with GOLFmagic's sister site BIKEmagic once - but I made a hurried retreat back into my hole once they threatended me with "Death by Cannondale" (only a Mountain Biker would understand that one!)

I didn't mean to have a go at the previous caller and I am sure your tats are NZ tribla types rather than 'Cut Here...' types. I've nothing against tats myself but the question is should they be treated as part of the dres code for golf clubs? Do you think they should be covered up to play golf?

Have to agree entirely with Martin regarding dress standards at any course - even public courses - it's all about respect for the game, the course and others.

I have to say his Club Captain sounds a very sensible sort of bloke and should stand by his principles.

Btw - a quick phone call to a certain "sister" course near Woking revealed that they have a smart, casual dress code - trainers are ok on the course but collared shirts only.............

The cretins who rode over your course are as much "mountain bikers" as the "golfers" who practice driving and chipping on our greens after the hours of darkness are golfers!

Les next you will want hair styles/cut to conform or cover up ,what difference does it matter if someone has a tat on his head if he/she respects etiquette? and dress code why should it bother people.Why should i have my arms covered to suit you ?live and let live thats what i say ,don't judge a book by it's cover and yes just like Marc i to support the great Leeds utd since the 60S.
So lighten up les and next time you play with someone with tats don't worry they may be more awake to the game of golf than you .

She actually played naked and had 'Cutter and Buck' tattooed on the cheeks of her bum.

Tats?????????? My Club rules say nothing about bringing "potatoes" on the course with them!! Why do "scruffs" get so animated about "correct dress??" Would you go and play football in Welly boots? Cricket in jeans and tee shirt? Squash in a wet-suit? Attend you mate's wedding in pyjamas?? Oh you would...there you are then! Live and let live! That makes it OK then!
