Larry In my local drving range shop there are boxes of dunlop 65 in xxx out boxes, the pro swears however theri no xxx outs but 100% kosher. anyway they are £9.99 per dozen.
However at this moment american Golf discount are selling these for just £3.99!

Also at pricerunner you can get 50 balls 65u (not xxx outs) for under £40.

I have some old original dunlop 65's and they are the bees knees, really soft of the bat and they dont half fly as well. Are the 65U the same ? I suppose for under £4 i should get a doz and see myself eh ?

Agree with Tour Aces being a bit "clicky" its why I suggested Tour Ultimate+ £15.99 or if you want something very soft with good spin Callaway Hex Blue or slightly less spin Hex Red down to £16.99 at directgolf.co.uk

Darryl - you can't use the Dunlops in competition. They're non-conforming.

Dunlop 65u ...can't use in competition who says? I like them in windy conditions but Srixon AD333s are better.

They say.

Another vote for the Strata Tours, I've been using them after finding that Sports Soccer were selling them for £8.95 per dozen.

Booger i think that only applies to the dunlop 65u that are xxx outs. The balls on the page to the link you gave are those, not the ordinary 65 U's. Im sure that dunlop woul not manufacture a ball that would not comply with competition rules

However the OLD original dunlop 65's i have would not comply either as they are so old they are the small old british type of ball, made before the R & A changed their size to match the USPGA. But then as i have never yet entered a compo im not that fussed atm.

Thanks Darryl. There is a bit of snobbery about balls and few people have much to say about Dunlops. Bearing in mind how long they have been making them they ought to be able to ! I like 65us and will continue to use them in windy conditions where the dimple pattern seems less affected by wind.

When you have been playing a bit longer get involved in competition golf it is what it is all about and it will bring your game on.

What about the Exceptions Al? You liked them?

I have to agree that the A10's were (are) superb. My last two boxes went as prizes at Collingtree and I've not seen anymore since.

Al did I say in one of my other posts to your question to have a look at golfballtest.com. They give all the low down on spin/ feel/ distances as a comparitive chart on lots of different balls

Played a Strata Tour Ace today - had a good round but they're hard and off the Cobra driver even more deafening than usual - sounds (and feels) like hitting a ball bearing, also down on distance to the Maxfli A10 and putting with them feels the same putting with a TopFlite XL3000.

I bought 2 (for 50p each) of the old type maxfli's today of some of the local urchins on my municipal course. I hit my ball into a thicket surrounding a pond. when i got there the golf urchins were surveying the deep dark water and sadly shaking their heads, as they chorused "ahh no mister, your ball 'ad it. Its gone in the drink, i 'eard it go 'ploosh myself', its gone mate"
Being an old hand at these things, I said to them " no bother lads it was only an old pinnacle anyhow"
At this they looked dejected and wandered off, only to leave my ball exactly where it had been all the time, ie: under one of their boots. They then cheekily came back and asked bold as brass if i wanted to buy and balls. Remembering Als reccomendation of said maxfli's I asked if they had any of the old type, not the newie solid things. They said they did but they had left them in the house and would get them Well on the 16th tee they appeared looking very sad with a measly 2 maxfli's "my little brothers nicked the rest for him and his mates" he said by way of an apology. However he swore he would get them back and keep them for me, for the day we met again. As he came to the course picking up balls everyday and wed meet up sooner or later he was sure. So hopfefully ill get a few more to test out. I onlu hope they were worth all the bother. :D
