Carry or cartbag?

So, its taken me a while to decide on this issue. On taking up this wonderful game I decided that carts are for old people and ladies, no offense. Then after a while I grew tired of carrying all those kiloes around and bought a cart/trolley, used it twice and is now back to carrying all the time.

What about you - do you carry or cart and why?

Cheers on a rainy Saturday!

Knut, where i play theres quite a lot of walking to do if you use a trolley with trolley paths so i tend to carry as it saves me some mileage during around.

I play on a hilly course so normally use a trolley in the summer, especially when my bag is packed with extra cold drinks and the waterproofs "just in case", as it can get a bit heavy to carry.

In the winter our course has a "no trolleys" sign, so I've no option but to carry - which is why I only play with a half set in winter.

There's plus and minus points of using a trolley in my view. Plus - you can put a much as you like in your bag when it's sitting on a trolley. Minus - you normally have to take the long way round with a trolley and it can be a bit of a slog when dragging the trolley up-hill.

Trolley, definitely. As Suzanne says you can stuff all sort of things in your bag and not worry about the weight. Also if you want to speed ahead and look for your ball, you can run ahead easier if you have a trolley!

My home course is quite hilly too, and I believe that's what made me change back to carrying again. It's simply too uncomfortable to drag the trolley uphill all the time. With regards to weight, well, what do you really need on course besides water, rainproofs and a few extra balls??

I always prefer to carry and am really resolute about taking all the excess "rubbish" out of my bag to make it really light. I have a mate who always uses a trolley and still takes his brolley and waterproofs with him when it's 80 degrees!

Carrying has got to be quicker a you can take the "direct route"

The problem with Trolleys is that you end up walking twice as faf as in a lot of course you cannot get near the green, Unless you are infirm you should carry as it makes the game much quicker.

3.5hrs is the most a game of golf should take even for a 4 ball.

I shall carry for as long as i am able!

I disagree with some of the above posts. I reckon if you're an experienced 'trolley dolly' then you can go pretty much anywhere with the trolley that a carrier can go - except as Hugh points out, around the greens. However, if you make an effort to quicken your pace slightly when approaching the green, so as to leave the trolley in a convenient place to grab it and move on after putting, then it's no slower. In fact, I think it's actually quicker with a trolley, and certainly more more pleasant than having to lug a nasty big heavy bag around.

Who cares as long as you play your golf in an appropriate manner and enjoy it. My only concern on the issue of carts/trolleys is where people moan when greenstaff ban them in poor ground conditions. Clearly this is to preserve the courses for all and to ensure that courses stays in its best possible condition.

After several years of carrying, I converted to the trolley for all 18 holes rounds. My scores on full rounds went down 4-5 shots even though I'm reasonably fit! Esp. hilly courses in warm weather wear you down more than you'd expect. The only real downside is that you frequently have the 'wrong' club with you for the lie you're confronted with around the greens. Hitting 100% GIR might resolve that, but poses other challenges. For short courses (par 3s) and 9-holes I continue to carry. In both options I try to keep the bag as lite as possible by removing all excess stuff.

I've hired a trolley for the last couple of comps (£1 a round) and felt a bit fresher towards the end.

Did notice though I was carrying about 30 balls around with me (just keep finding them), so no wonder carry bag was heavy.

I didn't notice how old this thread was!

About as old as my golf bag so what's the recommendation?
