I thought i was using it the correct way, but i have now found 3 different methods to use a ball mark repair tool on the green. Now i am really confused!
Which is the correct method to use a common or garden two prong repair tool ?

I always understood it to be from the outside of the pitchmark towards the centre, just gently teasing everything back into shape and a pat down with the putter when finished. That's how I do it.

I thinks that's right. I believe if you lift it up form the centre it can kill the grass by up-rooting it.

So the, put one prong in the mark and other prong outside the mark and twist a little methos is a no no ?

I agree with Joycey, prongs just outside the pitch mark, then tease it into the center finally patting down the crown.

What is it about some golfers that they think they are immune to fixing their pitchmarks? I bet if you were to poll all the members at you clubs you would get a 100% denial that it was any of them, and that it was visitors. I have become aware that the greens at my course have more pitchmarks unrepaired after a gents medal than at any other time. It may annoy my partners but I find it impossible to walk past an unrepaired one and never turn a blind eye to my partners often shaming them into doing it.I think a lot of older members think that they don't make them, its just the young guns that fire in high wedges.

They are also handy for getting your tee out of the ground and for cleaning your spikes mid round. They also come in handy to stick up the noses of anyone found guilty of non repairing.

i agree Big Kev - 100%

I think that players destroying the course by not repairing should be fined.

As it costs money to repair them.

Most members care only about their pocket so a fine may stop it.

At our course we have repair guides posted and they say dont lift the the pitch out push it back in. Hard to explain without piccies.

Our group play just after the seniors roll up goes out and if your the first fourball out in the group reckon on repairing two or more freshly made pitch marks each on most holes. Reckon some of them must be getting to old to bend down to repair them or to blind to see them

this was discussed a while back.

http://centexgolf.org/rules/pitchmark.htm

shows a simple diagram.

nothing worse than seeing someone walk past a divot or pitchmark - and its always the guys that are moaning about something on the course.

dmg, I never let anyone walk past a divot or pitchmark. On the 1st time if happens I say, I'll get you pitchmark/divot for you, the 2nd time same thing with 'again' added, they usually get the message by that point.

I actually repaired a number of pitch marks on my way round Forest Pines and I use Hacker's method.

I don't think they were off any of our lads though because they looked too accurate!

;-)) Sorry, I just couldn't resist that!

Insert the pitch mark repairer outside the circumference of the mark{do not dig and lift}but press and push the damaged turf from the outside in and tap down.

when you repair it like streatching the turf to cover the whole... you can use the end of your putter and just gently tap all sids of the pitch mark and pat down the crown
