For no other reason than "want something else in the bag"
I am getting sucked into the hybrid noise. i.e. Should I get one/do I need one?
I have King Cobra 440 driver plus 4 plus sz and 7 wood and use 5-SW and Approach wedge Callaway x16 plus (have the 4 iron but don't use it)
Hardly ever use the 4 plus off the tee as i like the driver (but sometimes I get too much loft in wind)
Would i benefit from a hybrid/rescue and if so what would be the optimum loft to fit in with what i have?
If anything perhaps a 2 iron equivelent as an option off tee to keep low?? (and are they good for chipping also??)
What model recommended?
Many Thanks
Geoff

Geoff, I think it realy boils down to how well you can hit a long iron. If you can hit a 3 iron great, then you probably want to leave alone. If not, then I think you need to try utility clubs, and 7 & 9 woods, to see which suits you best.
I've used lofted woods up til now, but I got a utility club for Christmas to see how I get on with that. Unfortunately, I haven't tried it yet!

Some rescue clubs have fairway wood shafts in them (high) some have iron shafts (low)- If your after a lower trajectory I'd recommend the Taylor Made Mid-Rescue TP 2-FW 16 deg (iron shaft) - Get the TP version it has no draw bias of the earlier model - Hits as far as my MP001 5 wood but on a much lower trajectory (steel shaft S-400) superb club into the wind & it chips well from just off the green (belly putter) - I'd be lost without it.

I can hit long irons really well most of the time. Only ever used to carry a driver and irons.
I thought I would never have a rescue club in the bag--- until I tried one.
21* for me to replace the four iron and can still hit the ball out of the long grass with it. Would maybe have bought a 19*

b careful if u get the taylormade tp 2 in graphite. the fujikura plays alittle whippy so get your swing speed checked out

I've used the Ben Hogan hybrid/recovery clubs in the 3, 4 and 2 iron models and found them really good - in fact made the mistake of loaning them to a couple of pals - both low (6&5) handicappers and I can't get them back off them! If I were to buy just one it would be the No.3 as it is a nice long iron replacement and also great from the rough. One thing I found is that using long irons repeatedly can be tiring and requires your "best" swing every time whereas these replacements are far easier to use consistently.

Depends what shape of flight you want if you want a low runner go with a low iron if you want to give it a bit of air and have the ball stop a bit quicker go for a hybrid/recovery. I find my 3i & 24* Fli Hi go about the same distance. Because it has the same loft as a 7i the fli-hi is more versatile for playing out of the rough, fairway bunkers, chipping etc so it is usually in the bag, but in weather like today the 3i goes in the bag instead.

Definetely a low hitting club wanted as Cobra's hit high.
But as only a 20 h'capper would i notice much diffrence between 16 and 19degree ...if equally as easy to hit I'll plump for 16 methinks

 Hi Geoff,
Handicaps can be a bit deceiving for recommending clubs as you could be a good ball striker but a terrible chipper & putter or vice-versa (no offence)
If you can hit the ball reasonably well & don't naturally hood the club face go with the 16 deg for the lower flight & extra distance - it's still much easier to hit than a 2 iron and IMHO more versatile.

if your lookin for a easy 2 iron get the taylormade 3 rescue mid as its a longer shaft than a normal 2 iron and its got a lower loft the taylormade 2 rescue is more liek a 1 iron and flyes quite low

I see that Cobra are launching a new 2005 rescue range - i wonder how they'll review...good if anything like their woods G

how come cobras are not common on the tour? my bro has one and wen i hit it, it feels tinny but flies FAAAR, dnt really like the feel of the club or the looks. but who can miss the sweet spot being that big!

geoff the sonartec md hits as low as anything else ive tried, even with the weaker lofts, which lets you hold greens and chip good with it too.
