I spoke to my Pro on Friday morning and he said there was no need for custom fitting as far as I was concerned as I am the average weight and height i.e 5'-11" and 12stone 7lbs. Please don't ask me what that is in kilos and metres, I am an Englishman born and bred.
The par for our course is 70 and I shot an 84 off the yellow tee's, alal down to the Cobra 440 driver and the mx23's. I just hope it keeps happening!

I went for a custom fit last year for MX23s and funnily enough I was a "standard" off the shelf fit. I'm a tad under 5'7" and have quite a large midriff. He also just happened to have some standard clubs in stock. I won't bother with custom fitting in future unless I become a low single figure handicapper.
Have to say though that I love the MX23s. I personally think the MP30s are a much better looking club but the 23s are more suited (forgiving) for my game.

at that height i would have thought you would have needed a few degrees upright as mizuno are genarally flatter lie then most. all depends how you hold your hands at address as well

I picked up my 23's about three weeks ago and had them custom fit. At 6ft 2 and 20 stone, apparently i am normal as well????
All that needed doing was raising the loft of the clubs 1 degree each
still i seem to be hitting them nicely.

I would get the lofts & lies double checked though - they can be way off spec...

6ft and approaching 16 stone (I'am very well built but believe that it's the lager and not a gland problem)u, average, well, I actually need .5 degree upright. Are you gents not like me,,, really pissed off after going for the custom fit to find that the standard off the shelf gear will do ??

I got custom fit for the MX-23's I'm six foot tall and weigh 13 stone. I am a regular shaft (borderline stiff, apparently) standard length and lofts, but the lie angle is 2 degrees up. possibly could be 3 degrees he says, will check it again in a few weeks.
Cheers.

I think it is worth getting fitted for lie and grip size, as well as getting advice on the correct shaft. Mizunos are a little flatter as standard than some other clubs, so standard in them is different from standard in some other makes. Getting the lie wrong can mean lots of pulls or pushes and having to make swing adjustments to compensate. Good manufacturers can supply basic custom fits in about a week or so. Personally I suit standard lie Miz, but I prefer a built-up grip and Rifle flighted shafts. With those modifications, the clubs feel and play differently.

I got mine 4 months ago and was fitted with regular lie clubs, regular shaft and slightly thicker grips than standard. I was fitted at agd and was quite impressed by the service. Now it may be a swing error (although off 12 i was a fairly consistent and good ball striker with my previous slotline inertial clubs) but i am very inconsistent with this set. One day i will hit them brilliantly but the next they are pulled, or pushed or (more regularly) hit 2-3 inches behind the ball and "duffed". Now i am not blaming the clubs but all was well before i started with these. I have found myself trying to adjust my swing and this has helped a bit but i am getting a bit p*ssed off with them to be fair. If they weren't so expensive i would swap them for something else! Could my woes be due to bad fitting? I am 6'1" and 14.5 stones with a fairly consistent rhythmical swing.

Oops, forgot to mention I got thicker grips,4 wraps of tape I believe.
Andy Capp, I know that it depends on the set up but how can you be a standard lie at 6'1"? Did you hit off a solid strike board?
|
 |
I did the full solid board with marking tape on the bottom and they were absolutely spot-on, so were my old clubs!

I wouldn't be too happy. How much extra does custom fitting cost?
|
 |
when i bought my clubs, i haggled the guy into including it in the cost of the irons, picked up the whole set for £380. Maybe that's why his heart and soul wasnt into the custom fit. He did mention though that they were soft clubs, making them easy to custom fit again, almost as if to say i'll see you in a couple of weeks.

 |
My "custom" fitting was free but the guy did seem surprised that i needed regular lie clubs, but perhaps i don't once out on the course. I also found them substantially heavier, especially the long irons, than my older clubs. Having said all this when you do hit one out of the middle of the bat it doesn't half make them feel worth the money!

i would agree, i was at the range yesterday hitting through with my driver trying to build the muscles in my arm.
After around 200 balls with the driver (Taylor Made 360ti), i tried hitting a couple with the 3 iron, and had a job to hold the club upright in one hand, let alone swing it.

Custom fitting should be free, at least with the usual manufacturers: Mizuno, Titleist, TM, Ping etc. Some more exotic shafts may add to the price. If you go to the manufacturers websites, they usually list the custom options. Also, a demo day is pretty helpful for trying various combinations. I kinda know I need regular lie and length, but the shaft type and flex and grip size and shape (reminder or round) is what I look for.

well guys my pro let me try the clubs to see what I liked and felt good with so I got standard loft and lie with S300 shafts on a Mizuno MP30 but in all honesty ive used MP32 and Titelist blades with regular and stiff shafts and they are all as good as each other I believe that you go with what you like and feels good. Happy swinging and play well dudes
