I find the biggest difference is from hole 14 onwards, I used to develop an increasingly severe slice off the tee towards the end of my round, this has reduced considerably since getting my leccy trolley and generally appears off the 18th and even then its more of a fade. Age 47. Got my son one for his 21st and he's also noticed a big difference towards the end of a round.

run the risk of turning this into a flamewar & going OT....I don't want to do that. Not trying to 'get fit' though, just trying to maintain a level of fitness based on leading as active a life as I can. I do have a couple of questions though?
What medical evidence, JP? Is there some issue specific to golf bags that makes them more hazardous than carrying a normal rucksack?
& my Grandfather, a WWII veteran (saw Dunkirk & North Africa), had three heart-attacks. All on the golf course. The third one killed him, he was in his late fifties. He used to play at Alexandra Park during the week, 9 in the morning before work & 9 in the evening after work (light permitting, and in all weather). That was his only excercise, other than lifting engines out of cars occasionally as he was a senior car mechanic. Cardiovascular does mean heart & blood vessels, right?

Personaly, I carry if I'm playing mid week or in a friendly knock, but come Saturday when the club comps are being played I use my electric trolly and must agree, feel an awful lot fresher when walking up the hill to the 18th Green.

This isn't a black and white issue - what's good for some isn't good for others. I don't find that my golf deteriorates towards the end of the round, and in fact if anything I tend to perform better on the back 9 than on the front 9. So carrying doesn't necessarily lead to worse scores on the last few holes.
You can't say "You will play better by using an electric trolley", it's all down to personal preference.
My tip would be to borrow or rent a trolley for a few rounds and see if there are any positive or negative effects, and then make your decision based on the facts.

EM.. I guess if your carrying a light weight bag with dual straps etc then you make a fair point about comparison with a rucksack... as Gary Player says...it horses for courses. I usually carry when i'm on the links in Ireland as a pull cart or lec trolley can be impractical. Playing golf for excercise is better than not for your health and thats for sure.

You will play better golf using a trolley as your energy isn't being absorbed carying 40lbs on your shoulders,go shopping and carry it all home, wouldn,t do it would you?.It's also safer especially on wet slopes as your traverse them and much safer on the ankles and ligaments in a slip.Seen some really bad carry injuries, personally I don't give a toss what people do as long as they don't ask me,Can I stick this in your bag?.

Cardio vascular exercise is any exercise that significantly increases your heart rate (ie your pulse)from your resting level, over an extended period.
Whilst walking increases your heart rate a small amount, I think it is generally accepted that the rate needs to be circa 120 pm minimum in order to qualify as cardio vascular exercise and for an extended period of time. This number is age dependent.

 Very, very good Lionel!

I have converted from a `carrier` to an electric `trolley dolly` after advice from colleagues. I can now enjoy the walk without the load on my back, I can put in the waterproofs, sweater, umbrella, drinks and all the other things that I use to have to remove in order to save weight.

Definately !!! I am a high handicapper who 1 round in 3 played to it ! Since getting a battery powered trolley 3 months ago, i am regularly ( 4 out of 5 rounds ) shooting 36 points or better ! I am also a qualified manual handling trainer who recognises any form of automation is good news for the spine !

I felt I started playing better after switching from a trolley to a carry bag. As strange as it may sound, but with a carry bag I feel more connected to my golf game than with my trolley....

I'm of the opinion that play would be much quicker if caddy cars were banned. You should only be able to use them if you get a doctor's line.
