Hello Folks, long time no speak.

I'm looking to change my driver at the moment, I like my Ping Tisi as it tends to be easy to hit straight, but I feel it leaves a little to be desired in the distance stakes. I'm sure I hit my old Taylor Made Burner II futher, despite it being steel.

I've tried out the new Taylor Made 300 series and like the 320, 9.5 loft. So far I've tried out the regular shaft only (no others in the range shop) and have just looked at the TM website for guidance on flex etc. There are loads of shaft options and now I'm confused - what should I go for?

My Mizuno Comp EZ irons have regular flex and my Ping steel shafted fairway woods are stiff flex (as per the guidance on their website) but I can't find any guidance anywhere about the TM 300 shafts.

BTW, I tend to hit my 5 iron about 180 yards (carry and roll)and produce a fairly high flight from all my clubs. Any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Marc

Problem is the variety of flexes between different manufacturers. Some seem to have a regular flex that is on the stiff side others have a regular flex that is really whippy.
Best to try out a few and see which gives you the most accuracy and distance.

I've tried a few 320's, R80 (regular) is pretty flexible and I found it hit the ball very high!. S90 I find better although not particularly stiff.
Have borrowed a friends 320 with a UST Proforce (S flex), that worked well, dodgy colour though!. I also like the Grafalloy Prolite (S flex) which I currently have in my Titleist

Thanks for the advice. But in the end I went for the R360Ti with 10.5 loft and bubble ultralite shaft regular flex and am VERY impressed.

Having read the reviews I thought the 320 was meant to give a lower flight than thew 360. So the first I Demo'd was the 320, and this seemed to go very high, even with low lofts. I mentioned this to the staff at the range who confirmed that it wasn't just me, even Taylor Made reps had told them that the 320 hits higher than the 360 - which it wasn't designed to do.

I also talked to the staff about loft and shaft selection, they watched my swing and the shape of the ball flight and confirmed that the stock shaft should be fine - even though I also felt that it was wippy - but on the basis that they know more about these things than me I went with their recommendation.

on taylormade website there is a custom fit section on r500 which will advise on shafts if your info inputted may help you with shaft choice on r300

Thanks for that Paul. It says I need a 9.5* loft and stiff flex, whereas the local pro gave me 10* loft and regular flex.

So, either I've not been honest with the replies on the web site or that was all the pro had in stock!
