I am having a set of Seal irons made up by the local pro. Similar heads to Callaways without the price tag.
(anyone have experinece of Seals??)

My question is......

These clubs after measuring me up are being made with longer than normal firm steel shafts. (i'm 6ft 2" )

Would I be better with Steel shafted Woods(standard or stiff shafts?)...or if quality graphite woods
would firm/stiff flex be better.
Could I tell the difference!!

Considering

(proper ones this time!)
either-Callaway Steelhead plus or
Taylormade Steel

Another question

22 Hcap (but still like a driver!)

Would 9.5 /10.5 or 11 degree make much difference????

Do I slice -yes
Do I hook-yes
Do I care-no!!!

Thanks!!

Geoff

Geoff, at least you got the right shafts in your irons, STEEL. Most people (including myself) recomend graphit shafts in woods, this is due to the fact that woods are much longer and should be swung in the good old fashioned way - SLOW. Being you are off a 22 handicap, i would probebly recommend at least 10.5 degree as this will give you more loft on the tee shot, normally the lower you handicap gets the lower degree of club you can use. I would also recomend a regular shaft as a stiff/firm shaft is something you need to work into.
I hope this helps, best Golfing, Phil.

Thanks Phil. I am using a set of inherited graphites (Dynacaft) woods and irons hence change to steel shafts. The irons are also too upright and I am going to standard as they sit well.
Any recommendations for woods-or like putters it's test and trial.
Trditional 1/3/5 ..or say 1 and 4 ...or strong 3/4/7....too much choice!!!

Geoff, I would go for 4 woods, a strong lofted 3wood off the tee, 5, 7 and 9 woods for off the fairway, they will be easier to hit than long Irons and should help you enjoy your golf, depending on your budget, I would consider the Callaway SteelHead Plus, Taylor Made Super Steel, Mizuno C-Face Forged Woods, Adams Tight Lies2 and the Orlimar fairway woods.
And you would definently want Graphite shafts in regular flex, you'll only ever want stiff shaft's if your swing speed is consistantly over 95mph.

Thanks Omar -not to sure about the 3/5/7/9. Am comfortable with a 4 iron and when all is well the 10 degree driver I use at the moment does it's bit (just don't like the feel-Dynacraft with graphite shaft).
Capable of hitting 220-240 ish but it's the consistency I lack (once a week golfer-can't expect too much!)
Really fancy the Callaway-but not sure whether if I had steel shafts (cheaper!)
it would be much worse for me than their graphite shaft.
Thinking poss 11 degree driver 4 wood and seven wood ..or standard 1/3/5
...there we go again...unsure!!!!

Just committed to Steelhead plus 1 & 3 woods in graphite (firm shaft)
with a 10% discount from Nevada Bob's.

Geoff, just remember with the firm shafts, keep the flow of the swing regular or constant, don't slow down or nearly stop on the downswing. these weapons you just got are very good for any handicap player.

COuldn't agree more with Phil...Callaways are excellent clubs and very forgiving. The more loft you have in a driver, the easier it is to keep straight...but don't discount the fairway woods, they are deadly. A lot easier to hit than a 4-iron etc. Give a 5/7/9 wood a try next time you have the chance...you might have to dent the credit card when you do!

Thanks for advice....at £180 a time I had to call a halt...thinking of getting the pro to make up a "Seal" 7 wood though.
Don't think quality should make that much diffrence with a seven.

Jesus Geoff, they are only £129 a piece down here in Devon.

Think that is standard for steel shafts
Phil??...and £179 for graphite?

Don't Callaway fix the lowest prices
Retailers can sell at?

I am "told" that at £179 graphite there is only a £11 retail mark up...if you believe that.
