yeh sounds good: gortex now I remember 1st pair decent shoes 1964 advertised 'man made leather' gortex lined absolutley waterproof

Our club champs were then 36 Sat 36 Sun up to ankles in water changed me undertrews 4 times & 6 prs socks rain draining down legs but shoes never leaked think lasted 6 years & then soles cracked

Also remember $200 Reebock jogger were the j*&% sh^* & also onsold Flourshiem lites ? paid Oz $49 chunky look suede upper/rubber sole very wide B/rupt stock $149.

Truble is aint rich just a golf rat, sucker for a "bargain" (so go buy two Ar Ar ) even if dont need em lol

Further report on my Ecco golf shoes - just spent this evening removing the plastic cleats and replacing them with stainless steel spikes for the rest of the winter. These shoes were bought a month ago.

Oops! three of the screw threads in the soles have failed (did not overtighten) and come away from the sole.
For a pair of shoes that cost RRP£120 (I payed £60) being able to change spikes or cleats is imperative.

This is p**s poor performance and they will be going back from whence they came.

I will nominate them as lemons in the thread on poor equipment.

Tungsten/Ceramic damage in commercial cart fleets & mower blades if lost on greens are
reasonable argument in favor of soft spikes but as yu say some steel threads & fall out any way

A buck each couple month life now commonly demanded of members idea no putting surface damage but 8-16pts per sprig no mean (pun) feet & reduce (hav to be joking) compaction

Now dolts walk over yer putting line leave heel marks "Mia soft spikes ar OK" or miss putt swing feet & up to 112 grooves

Shud be wort refund not wun ter tell ow to suk eggs etc but found if no reseller joy ! manufacturers acknowledge a bulshi bullshi feedback & respond positively to EG "Your marketing convinced me your shoes & sprig system superior & offered years of trouble free golf"

However you may be unaware of sprig thread factory fault or a quality control passing shoes with faulty sprig housing these loose sprigs to perhaps cause me to slip over or damage mower blades

You caint get killed fer asking & by the way so far after months or so me Footjoys am brilliant

APOLOGIES TO ECCO - on further examination it is not the threads that have failed but the spikes themselves - the discy thingy spins but the spike doesn't.

And am now off to play 18 in the warm, dry comfortable (straight out the box) Ecco shoes.

Back - and the shoes have been transformed by the addition of steel (although unreliably manufactured) spikes.

In response to your question on trend with spikes Donk - MUST be steel in winter bloody dangerous plastic crap slips on wooden walkways (bridges - green to tee etc.) and wet changing room floors

I must admit Alan that I play in soft spikes all year round with no problems. They may get matted up but so do steel ones, and I don't slip using them either.

Was ded aginst change & some supplied like studs no grip @ all deadly dangerous altho plenty lil pressure points on green, wonder what STE/R is using that he finds so stable

Issue beingwas forced so rat around settled on Black Widow 8 legs/points & the current footjoy similer but quik lock not threaded seem OK unless Mia is being more carefull !

Resorts seem split on Sf/s V optional & the aggressive adotion by pvte clubs no logical supporting argument 'its decided' s yu sed Alan timber bridge/steps T slopes a risk

Steps recently installed (sleepers)to tart up T mounds are being ripped out resurfaced or changed to concrete & some Sydney clubs revert 'optional' after injury claims & Ins coy refused further cover

Interested in other contributor experience & how UK/EU club approach to this somewhat contencious issue
