After a year of going on and on I may have convinced my wife to give this game a try. I need advice on what would be a good starter set, her abilities are not great and may not stick to it so don't want to spend too much. I assume putters are the same or am I wrong? Any other clubs the same? What is the difference?

My wife used to play about 12 years ago with gents clubs and came out for a game again 2 years ago and used my wee boys clubs, Masters Ogre 11-14 years and thought they were perfect for her, light, smaller grips and really whippy. I could get you a price for a starter set or(as long as my son doesn't find out) I could let her try his first.

If you are after some cheap ladies clubs, the Donnay range from Sports Soccer might not be a bad idea as they also do a ladies range. Good starting point until interest lifts off and you spend potentially big money.

Direct Golf have a few ladies sets on offer from £99 upwards. May be worth a look.

Ram have a got a couple of sets including bag, putter, woods and irons for about £160/£170. Try Argos and pro shops.

Didn't think of junior sets she is about 5'3" would the 11-14 be best?

Will have a look in the Donnay Shop too.

Going through all the sites on the left at the moment.

Have seen the ram sets if I was more confident about her sticking to it I would easily spend that but as a taster would want to keep the price sub £100.

Was having a look on the interenet and came across these sets froms sportsHQ

and

Any users of these or the Gents equivalent.

Off to try junior sections now :)

My son is about 5' and they fit both him and my 5'8" wife fine. I could meet you at Palacerigg range tonight if she wants to give them a bash.

Gave my mate a phone, everything she needs, ladies clubs, 7 irons, 3 woods, all graphite, bag, balls tees, £130. I'm sure he said Ram.

Will keep that in mind Kev sounds like a good deal, though she is worried that people will laugh at her. May have to get her a lesson or 2 first.

Nigel at Palacerigg range has got a good reputation as a teacher, or is it for the ladies.

My wife says you dont need a full set... She just carries a 5 and 7 wood and 7, 9 W and SW in the irons..
(+ putter!)

She gets little differiation between the irons to make much difference (she says!)

I bought my first irons and 3 fairway woods (all lynx) before I'd even hit a ball. I think I paid £299 for the irons and £60 each for the woods. I know thats more than you want to pay but I have seen the irons for sale regularly on Ebay and they usually go for much less than £100. They are very good clubs for ladies, in fact, they are the clubs I still use!

I'm only 5 ft 1" but my clubs are regular length.

Wish her luck and I hope you give hers lots of encouragement.

I bought a dunlop ladies set from sports world for £65 after my boyfriend convinced me to try golf and now i'm hooked. They did junior sets in there as well. my set was complete except for a putter which i got for £6! I didn't want to spend too much in case i didn't like the game
