Just taken delivery of one of the new Mizuno Fli-Hi CLK hybrid irons and I have to say, it's fabulous.

17degrees, 85gram stiff Aldila NV shaft (although not sure on colour choice!!)
and played at Mottram Hall last night and found it to be the most versatile club i've ever had.

Surprisingly long from the tee-peg, powerful flight, 235-yards on carry (no wind). Off the deck, just as easy to hit as a 7-iron, with a lot more added distance. But where it really scores is around the greens, it's just so easy putting with it out of Mottram's snarly rough, no need to chip.

I've had the "rescue" type clubs before and never found them to be that accomodating for all kinds of shots. I used this 8-10 times yesterday with all sorts of shots and loved it.

ANyone else seen one of these type of clubs change your game?

I have used a Srixon utility and a Big Bertha Heavenwood for the last year and they are an absolute gem.

Helped me cut my handicap by 10 shots in a year.

Parky, I actually use the standard Fli-Hi, not the CLK. Chose it this way around as I have a problem (Psychological) with hitting woods from the fairway but long irons I love and the CLK reminds me too much of a wood. It is without a doubt the best golf move that I've ever made. I use the 16 degree and generally carry it around 210 to 220ish. My course has 3 long par 3's needing 3 irons, if the winds in the face then this is just the job. Also 2 par 5's which with a good drive, this gets me there in 2. I can't fault it.

I've been using a Progen utility this year, and I love it.

I agree with you, Parky - the biggest advantage has been around the greens, it's perfectly suited for shots around the green.

Harry Putter, for one, will be disappointed to learn that I have now dropped my 11 wood in favour of the Progen club.

I'm looking at getting one of these and see you've gone for a stiff Aldila NV shaft. Being somewhat ignorant on these matters, I have no idea if that's steel or graphite! Could you talk some about about how you went about choosing the shaft? Thanks.

Mark L,

Stiff Aldila NV shaft is a graphite shaft.

I have these shafts in my Cobra fairway woods but do not find them to be too stiff.

The CLK is nice, I found that it worked well on demo against a Cobra Baffler and TM Rescue Mid.

I've just ordered a 23 degree steel regular from County Golf for £69.99, I founf the steel shaft gave me more confidence and the loft will replace both 3 and 4 Irons and sit along side my Cobra 3 and 5 woods.

I went for the 17 degree model to replace my old 1-iron and it seems to be a perfect substitute. Lovely penetrating trajectory which is ideal for me.

The reason behind the shaft was that I prefer graphite nowadays as it's improved tenfold from what we used to get - shafts with more glue than graphite! Mizuno do a perfect custom fitting programme, so you can pick and choose what's ideal for you.

Long clubs in teh bag are now perfect for my game with driver, 3-wood (13.5loft) and the CLK. I still start the irons with 3-iron thru LW, so it's all there - just dropped the 4-wood now.

Enjoy your game
