Right.
From your experience guys, what shaft gets the ball higher off the tee. I'm talking about a driver obviously. (Ping G2)

Ping standard reg flex
Pro Launch Grafalloy Blue reg
Aldila NV reg

Lets say 10 degree loft.

Also how much distance could I expect to lose with a 11.5 degree loft, same club.

Cheers for any help,
Big Sul.

IMHO, PL and Ping standard both hit higher than NV. I have 10-degree PL G2 and am naturally a low ball hitter, but I can hit it high.

I just don't really like the Ping standard shaft.

As to whether you would lose distance with an 11.5, I think that you may lose some distance if you hit Sunday best with both. You may gain distance on an iffy hit, due to greater forgiveness with 11.5.

Always start with the loft then use the shaft to optimise flight

By going lower loft to determine flight you are automatically increasing sidespin

With the higher loft and a high kick shaft, you could produce the same ball flight as a low loft low kick shaft, but without the extra sidespin

Optimum launch on a driver is approx 11 deg even at speeds of up to 115 mph with the compression force to match

So that's 9 deg's loft on a driver and the other 2 deg's as you hit on the upswing right ;0)

I'm always put off with this optimum driver loft stuff, is it based on flight, distance with roll or just the fact most people can't hit a straight drive?

This and the fact most driver improvments that are meant to benfit my game rarely work or even give me worse results puts me off even picking up a driver with more than 10deg loft in the shop.

Maybe I should demo a few and find out

Pretty much everything lol

You could have as you stated but also the same effect if someone hits on the downswing with a 14 loft and de lofts it 3 deg
It is based on a mechanically stationary robot which is why many launch monitor readings can be misleading
you only have to move your weight, angle of attack and spine position an inch and you will create different launch conditions.
As you have done Tony youve worked out what works for you not what someone says you should have.
Allways a good idea to demo if possible ,but if the demo works buy it not the new sone in the shop as chances are it wont play the same

Well !

EXMAX. Which is the high kick shaft, is it the PL?
Everyone,
I demo'ed a G2 on a launch monitor at my club and the pro suggested I need an 11.5 degree loft, reg shaft. Just wondering in your honest opinions which shaft would suit it best? I know everyone is different but shafts often have certain characteristics. Of course I'm gonna get the PL or Aldila, no one seems to like the standard shaft.

I tend to find this too, a shaft is more important to me these days rather than the actual head for the simple reason I've never found a graphite shaft I like the feel of.

I may even do a little experiment using a M42 driver I have here collecting dust and try it with a few different shafts.

Should make intresting reading if I keep notes.

Mark

PL is low kick = high trajectory. NV is mid-high kick = low-mid trajectory.

NV feels quite lively but plays firm. PL is also a good shaft. I chose PL because I am a low ball hitter, but NV would have been a good choice too.

If you can demo one or both, even if not in a G2, I think that is the best way forward.

Martin has it spot on the aldila would give you more punch power with that loft imo

So basically you think that the 11.5* loft and PL shaft together MIGHT give me too much height. The Aldila will send it out more .....
Mmmm decisions, demo's required I think.

Will keep you posted.
