Hello there everyone...

My query is this, I'm relatively new to the game and one of my weaker points is my putting and seeing as it's the club we all use most I was thinking about getting a decent one (mine current putter doesn't even have a brand name on it!)in the hope that it will improve my game. IU've looked at the Odyssey DFX 2-ball and the 'white hot' equivilant and also the Ping Craze-E which seem good but also quite pricey for a beginner! Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated and also any ideas on other possible putters that I havn't considered!!! Look forward to hearing from you all! Adam

Yeah I've been trying that but I do find it kinda bewildering! Probably because I don't have a huge knowledge of what to look for I guess!

okey dokey......

How about saying £70 limit..

Now, go and pick up a blade putter (ping answer or similar) and a mallet (TM monza / 2 ball)

go try and see what

a) works
b) feels good
c) looks good

Once decided on blade or mallet, look further.....

no point asking what peoplen prefer as will get a 50/50 response.....

I love my TM mezza monza... guy i play with has tried it, and cannot use it...... all down to what feels good... to the individual.

(PS --- look in the secondhand bins.)

Nice one... got something to work off now! I was tempted to just rush in and buy one (big kid)! In my very limited experiance I find that a mallet gives me more control and feel but as i say this is through very limited experiance! Seen some nice prices on e-bay too! Golf shop here I come!

Indeed,

any good course with a good pro shop will have a puttin green

any decent pro will let you try putters out on the green (you buying a putter is putting food on his table)

Therefore, try a coupe of blades, a 2 ball, and a mallet.........

you'll soon get an idea of whats good or not.....

Incidentally, if you're a shortarse like me (< 5' 10") try a shorter club 34" v 35"

once you have decided on the mallet v blade, then look more closely.....

Ping have always been renowned for club fitting from driver to putter....

Chances are most people spend £200+ on a driver that gets used 10-14 times a round....

Putter is generally used 30 + times a round....... does his tell you where to spend and where to save??

Good luck and remember its what you feel comfortable with, not what others think

I would say 34 or 33 almost regardless of height.

The shorter the club the more easily your hands can hang down.

Average length on the tour used to be about 31, as said above the shorter the easier to relax your arms and use a more natural action.

Being 6.3 doesn't make a huge difference to club length as this is determind by the measurement from your hands to the ground (tall people have longer arms), although an extra inch or so may be needed.

As far as club size goes I guess I'll just have to see what fit's best and what feels best!

Its an intresting choice, im a high handicaper

Best thing to do is to go to your local shop or Yankee golf ripoff and try a load out as surprisingly they are all different and the weights and feel do vary with diffent placed shafts in the putter.

I settled on the Odyssey DFX 2 ball mid shaft and I am very pleased with it (have left a review on golfmagic)

Close 2nd was the ping Crazee.

Putters are a personal choice so spend your time trying them out and then trawl the net seeing if you can get it cheaper.

Good Luck
