I am about to invest in a new set of irons, custom fit, and would like help on choosing between the following three.

Titleist 822 OS, because I already play titleist, have bag etc.
Ping I3 ,best custom fit or
Mizuno MX 20, read some good reports.
Can anybody give me personal feedback on any of these clubs. Thanks

P.S handicap of 19 but hopping to get to single figures by the start of next year.

Graham,

I'm only able to comment on my own irons, and being a 34 h/cap you might not be able to discern anything from my ramblings but here goes...

In April I bought a set of Ping I3 o-size irons and I love them. The irons sits very nice at adress with a nice thin topline and actually look a little smaller than they are. I like that!

IMHO the I3 irons are very forgiving, even when (not intentionally) hitting the ball from heel or toe you will get reasonable length and also a fairly straight ball flight.

The standard grips are Golfpride Tour Velvet with the Ping logo and they work well for me.

Ping's static fitting procedure is very nice and will give you a good basis for a dynamic fitting session with your friendly pro.

They don't have the beauty of the forged Mizuno irons and possibly not the same feel, but for me it works ;o)

/K

BTW, be sure to test all 3 sets before you buy...

Wow, cutting 10 strokes of in 3 months is quite ambitious to say the least, im not going to say unrealistic beacuse I have knocked 11 strokes of mine over the past 6 months. im now off 17 and hope to be off 10 this time next year, I regularly go round in about 10, just not im competitions much.

I rekon, if you are going to be off single figures then the Mizunos or the Pings would be best. I would personally, (out of the three you have suggested) go for the Mizunos, because they are forged, have got very good feedback and the long irons or strong so the ball doesnt baloon up so much.
If I had the money to afford a set that costs the same as those then I would go for the Cleveland Gunmetal TA3's. These too are forged and give an amazing feel and are realy workable.

Thanks for the comments, after looking again I've swapped the Titleist 822os to the 762, less forgiving but more workable. I have found a pro shop that stocks all the above clubs so I will try first before deciding and then get custom fit. As for getting my handicap down I forgot next year was so soon so I will go for next season, which at my club starts in march.

Now Theo has mentioned the Cleveland clubs it is back to surfing the net for more info.

The best set of irons I have ever played with. With their low centre of gravity and forgiving area, I have found this to be my best buy yet. The graphite shafts are ideal for my medical condition and with jumbo grips fitted to each iron my control has improved beyond my wildest dreams.
