Are they worth it for a beginner?

Yes, I read the excellent article in Todays Golfer, however, being left handed the Mizuno is not yet available. Sorry David that is why you lost a sale!
I agree entirely with Paul; my Callaway Big Bertha irons also help and last year I bought a lob wedge which really helps get close to the hole. However, the key as you say is getting down the hole as quickly as possible-hence the new putter!!

I bought an Arnold Palmer 7 wood on ebay its a lovely little club and it didn't break the bank.

I had a Hippo 7 wood (graphite) in my bag which I hit well but was not spectacular in flight or distance. When I changed it for a better quality (Mizuno Blue Rage) 21 degree steel shafted, the difference was amazing. High powerful flight, easy off fairways and out the semi - a real stroke saver.

I agree with Davids comment from earlier in the thread. I play off 7 and have thrown out the 3 and 4 irons and replaced with an Adams Redline 7 wood which is easier to hit and gives a higher trajectory, softer stopping shot. Also a Mizuno fli-hi utility club 24 degrees. Carry 4 wedges as well.

Whatever works for you - use it!

I also read the Todays Golfer test and decided on the Mizuno, all i can say is that it has given me the confidence to attack the green whereas before i would have been happy to lay up close with a 3 iron

Beautiful club Steve - its great to fire one over the bunkers from way out and get it to stop dead on the green.

Just a quick question to everyone who uses a 7 wood - does yours tend to fly with a 'slight' draw?
