Have you tried a square driver yet? Have you bought one or owned one and since discarded it?

I have been using the Callaway FTi (10 degree, reg flex) for about 6 weeks now.

At first I was so gob-smacked at how straight it was, I just didn't mind the fact that my driving distance was down from 240-60 with my old Sasquatch to around 210-230 with the FTi.

However, I'm now getting quite cheesed off with being outdriven by partners using 3-woods or even 3-utilities.... !

I've just been on a launch monitor and been fitted with a TM Burner (9, regular with stiff tip). It arrives in a couple of weeks. If I get on with it - and lets face it, I really should ! - then I'll sell the FTi...

It's a great club for hitting it bullet straight, but I really can't afford to lose 30+ yards distance... Going into a green with a 5 instead of an 8 is a whole different ball game... !

I haven't even been tempted to try one yet.

I am just an old cynic but all this just seems yet another way of emptying our pockets of cash with the 'new improved' product that offers us 300 yard drives that go dead straight etc etc

The people I have seen with these square drivers so far are the mugs that have more money than sense. They couldn't hit a driver before and can't hit one now and are a few hundred quid worse off !!

As the age old comment says, 'wouldn't they have been better off having lessons with the money improving their technique?'

Apologies Bob for such a depressing reply !!

I have used the Callaway FTi (10 degree, reg flex) for the last 6 weeks. I use a soft compression ball (noodle). The ball goes straighter and longer though it has taken me a few weeks to be confident enough to give the club a hard enough 'whack' to get the extra distance. I suspect it is to do with the swing plane but I don't know what it is. My advice is to stick with it for a while before giving up...... it grows on you.

I've got the new Masters square driver (with a factory-fitted extra stiff shaft) and I very much like it - good sweet spot, excellent accuracy and flight pattern. Good distance as well. I preferred it to the other models I tried (oversize drivers both square and conventional from all the big names). But one man's meat ... etc. Like any other golf club, others may find differently.

Bought an Integra Idrive with a Grafalloy blue reg in it, been in the bag for the last few weeks

It's probably 10-15 yards short of my R5 but the plus side is I'm hitting (or nearly hitting) 9 out of 10 fairways instead of hitting maybe 5 out of 10 previously.

It makes all the difference not hitting a second shot out of the trees and the confidence it's giving me means I'm going for tight drivable par fours instesd of the 5 iron I used to use. Suddenly I'm playing inside my handicap and expecting to be cut pretty soon.

In short, I love mine!

I see Stevo's endorsing it. I know where I would like to put that driver, square end first............. :O

I have had my Callaway FT-i for about 8 weeks now and although im not really very long, I am around 70% on the fairway, my mates are longer than me by about 20yds but spend much more time looking for balls. It really has dropped my score by about 4 strokes so for me the FTi is a hit.
Length is not everthing, its how you use it!

I've tried the Sumo squared but couldn't find one with the right shaft for me. It was quite long off the tee but with a small amount of slice so not as accurate as my Cobra driver. It is very loud and scared the sh*t out of me when I first used it.Partners should wear earmuffs!Should carry a Govt health warning!

Roy, yes i know what you mean by noise, before i got the Callaway I tried the NiKe and that sounded like I was hitting the ball with a frying pan. It seems like you may need a driver with slight Draw Bios same as my Callaway if you tend to slice.

I've just bought the new John letters T2 and it is superb. Admittedly I'm playing at present with a 12 degree cheapo 2nd hand Ben Sawyer driver, but I had a go with the Callaway FTi at the Golf Show, and the fitter from the Belfrey suggested I needed a 13 degree loft to get the required backspin. I was hitting 200yards with that according to the monitor, but with the John Letters I was able to drive upto and over 250 yards (into the wind) at the range! Can't wait to get this out for it's first round this weekend (hopefully!)

Tried and hated both the FT-I ans the SUMO2, looks awfull, sounds worse, and if you put a bad swing on it it still goes left (my bad shot) Plus they are very short,If I put a bad swing on my Sasquatch it goes left but lots further.

So in short I have arranged to get fitted for a Taylormade driver on a launch monitor at Celtic Manor next month, tried out the burner and it really is sneaky long.Well done to TM for not jumping on the bandwagon.

Just played my first round with my John Letters Square, and it was fantastic! Generally hit dead straight, and reasonably long (except into the wind, but that is probably due to my high pitch on the face 13deg as I'm pretty new!) whichj resulted in my lowest 9 holes score ever! Very happy!

I bought a Masters MC-Z910 10.5* square driver for just £25. I LOVE IT!! It has keep my Callaway X460 out of the bag for 2 months now!!! It is so easy to use, Just look down at the head, Thats where you are aiming! Mine came with Grafalloy pro-launch blue, Regular shaft and Golf pride multi compound grip. Also agree with dandy don I tried the FTI (draw and neutral) and absolutley hated it (and im a Callaway freak).
