He has Joined Sky as an on course commentator now that Boxie has gone in doors. Always thought he was a bit of a one when he was playing but some of the comments he comes out with are pure class, i think we will just have to put up with the fact he's an aussi.

think you mean crass

Well he brings a smile to my face.

He does like a good metaphor. That aside, I think he is good value.

Radar is always entertaining. He's enthusiastic, and comes out with some corkers. Most of the Sky team is pretty good imo.

Niblick I am in complete agreement with you. Sky have that great mix of old-school and young fellas whilst the BBC are just going backwards. I think the Sky coverage is great and they never forget that those of us watching it are keen amateurs who love golf rather than pros. Full marks to SKY and anyway, my dream woman is there.... Di Stewart !!

Delectable Di... mmmmmmm. The commentary on Sky is first class, and that includes the on-course guys, Richard Boxall, Tim Barter, Wayne Riley and especially Howard Clark (who gives you every possible option the player has, and then usually calls the right shot - and if he doesn't it usually means the player got it wrong!)

I enjoy the Wayne Reily input - nowt wrong with a bit of humour.
Saw him play a pro-am last year - very entertaining banter.

True - I remember watching last year's French Open, Clark couldn't believe Monty's club selection at a par 3. "That's one club too many" opined Clark, just before Monty's shot sailed twenty yards over the green.

At the risk of causing a little rumble, Sky commentators are getting there but they have a long way to go before the reach the standards of Peter Alliss. He comes from a completely different generation I know, but his CV is remarkable, in golf he was excellent, well apart from his putting. In '58 he won three European tournaments in a row I believe, when he left the playing game, he "learned" the commentating from Henry Longhurst and again in my opinion has become the voice of golf around the world. Wayne Riley will be good for Sky as they like that kind of thing. I like Ewan MacGregor from Sky, his take on the Monty debacle was first class, he was a very good amateur golfer and is becoming an excellent commentator

I'm a fan of Ewan MacGregor as well, he was particularly good in The Island alongside Charlize Theron. Not a big fan of the Star Wars movies to be honest, but he had a roll to fill Wayne Riley is good for the team, he tells it as it is. He does his homework and know what sort of shot the pro's like to hit and whether or not the shot will suit there shot shape. To be honest I like most of the Sky team apart from the fawning Ewan Murray, who is so far up Tiger Wood's arse it's untrue. If your looking for unbiased coverage, don't listen to Ewan.

 |
Well put sir, slip up there again I am afraid. Of course it was Ewan Murray I was supposed to be referring to and not my fellow biker, international playboy, singer and acting friend Ewan MacGregor, apologies

Allis of course is an institution, but you wouldn't really want the modern commentator to follow his style. Each of the commentators on Sky has their own style and they complement each other quite well. Ewen (Obi Wan) Murray can be quite opinionated, but he does at least have the knowledge to back it up. Critchley is often at odds with Murray and therefore provides an alternative viewpoint. Steve Beddow and Richard Boxall often join forces for the smaller tournaments and they're quite an entertaining team - more relaxed and jovial. Not sure how many people will agree with this, but I also really enjoy it when Butch Harmon joins the team for the US tournaments. The only person who I don't particularly like listening to is Peter Oosterhouse (another who joins in for the majors)... not really sure why.
