Right, will try my best to explain this 1 Im in a society that plays once a week and i sort the h/caps out.... This week i couldnt play so 1 of the other lads collects the cards and passes them on to me,cut the story short,1 of the players on the 18th green took a put with another players ball inside his, didnt ask him to mark it prob cos he thought he wouldnt hit it but he did..... they were not sure on the penalty for this so the player marked it down as a par as he took 5 strokes on a par 5 and they said they would clarify wot the penalty was in the club house, they asked the pro and he said 2 stroke penalty, which to me is legit, cos if you dont know a rule then you mark your score as normal then adjust it after when you find out the proper ruling so ive got it in my head that his score gets a 2 stroke added to it,but this player straight away after he found out the ruling D/Q himself ,so i want to know can he do this as he shot below his h/cap also and said cos he has D/Q himself then his h/cap cant be adjusted....... hope ive explained it enough

Surely ALL scores go to handicap adjustment. If he classes the last as an NR then assign clause 19 Net Double Bogey. This could be 7 or 8 (unless he is more than 18). Tell him he can't pick and choose - this sounds like 'Sandbagger' techniques to me and smells a little fishy. Stamp your authority on him .

He cant do anything without the consent of the handicap committee, in this case YOU. If he starts playing up cut him a couple of shots and make him wear the "I am acting like a tosser" cap for a week. If he continues with this mind numbing behaviour tell him to go and play his golf eleswhere.

In plain English he can't DQ himself that's up to the competition organiser (you); he can NR himself ... so his card still stands for h/cap purposes.

Hi fellas,,sorry to bring this up again....... But since i posted this 1 i told the offending player wot the guys said in the replies and he took it well and accepted his mistake.........but over the last couple weeks ive heard that 1 player has questioned this to other players and not me asking who said you cant D/Q yourself and they have explained i got this off a forum he has gone on to say its wrong and that you CAN D/Q yourself........... So,before i pull him up and have it out with him can any1 point me in right direction of the rule or if there are any circumstances or comps that you can D/Q yourself .....cheers

What rule is it suggested that he is DQd under ? A player can only be DQd or penalised under a Rule. How can a player penalize himself 2 strokes. Just another penalty. Anyway, the scores for virtually all DQs are required to be recorded for handicap purposes under CONGU rules.

As far as I am aware you can DQ yourself for breaking a rule and not knowing the penalty - only to be advised afterwards. Eg My ball is in a bunker, I hit the lip on the way out and the ball comes back and hits me, in doing so I have broken a rule (DEC will soon fillin the approprite rule, sub ruling, decisions etc etc) and consequently I will be disqualified........... should i not be aware of the ruling and on the next tee a fellow competitor says "you didnt correct your mistake blah blaah blah and youve now teed off" I see I could DQ myself, after telling FC exactly what i though t of him for waiting until the next tee before informing me (add two more letters to FC and almost there!!!)

Fen, "you didnt correct your mistake blah blaah blah and youve now teed off" I see I could DQ myself. You did not DQ yourself, you were DQ'ed because you broke the rules, subtle difference there, me thinks.

Only 1 SP Fen (R19-2). Hit a wrong ball and then your scenario would follow through. Easiest way to get yourself DQ'd - don't sign your card.

Spot on In the same way that you can't declare you ball lost. It is deemed lost if ......( 5 minutes etc)
You can't declare yourself DQd. You are DQd if ........ (you don't sign your card etc)

This could be a funny (but unethical) thread. How can a player DQ himself? ...... Nah, don't wany to give that kind of advice
