Last week I had the pleasure of a round at St Annes Old Links at Blackpool.  It is a pure links course with I enjoyed a warm welcome.  At £40 a round it was good value.

The members I spoke with were friendly as was the staff at the pro shop.  They spoke very highly of the head greenkeeper who apparently comes from the Inverness area.

The front none ate me up and I had 4 solid pars to finish before tackling the difficult par 5 18th.  It suckered me into an approach in two, big mistake.  Loved every minute.  I would recommend a visit.

Nice enough course if a little bland in places and some holes too close to the airport!

Yeah, very noisy in places, well, most places actually.  Some cracking holes although the greens have been receptive rather than having to land the ball short.  Played there on Tuesday in the HSBC Champion of Champions event and shot a 73 off the Championship tees.  If you remember the 17th, it was playing at 634 yards into the wind !!

Driver, 3 iron then 5 iron into the green.  35 foot for birdie........and then a 6 footer back for par

Beast of Barnsley,

I can remember the 17th tiger tee, it is set a fair bit back.  I recall having the view that John Daly at his longest could never reach that hole in two.  it was playing into the wind when I playec asswell, apparently an unusual direction

Yeah, OOB all the way down the right hand side of the hole for all you slicers/faders out there

Not the best golf course on the west coast by any stretch of the imagination but a very good test nonetheless with some nice holes. Any category 1 golfers can play two rounds there for a measley £25 in their Ashton Trophy. Now at £12.50 a round I would say that is great value and might even be tempted to make the journey over to the coast myself!! Think it is in mid-september so the weather should (could??) still be nice.
