Lawman,

You may have alreay tried this,  but I suggest you try increasing your arm speed(not shoulders) making sure you accelerate through impact and complete a full follow through. You should be able to find an optimum speed whereby the hands uncock naturally.

I lose all my lag well before the club gets back to the ball, and as a consequence i am a straight but short hitter.

Not one of 6 local pros has been able to fix this for me. I read every thread on here (and lots of other places too) about lag, but so far I have not seen anything that has enabled me to generate any lag at all.

Well, you're obviously a decent player despite that, mate.

couple of things you may or may not have tried. I seem to recall you said you're a 2 planer so your hands are a bit more active coming down than a one planer, I'd guess. Have you tried actually increasing the distance between your hands and the ball as you start back? Feel almost like you're pushing the hands up and back slightly as you transition.

The other is a feel more than anything. You must feel that the purpose of the downswing is NOT to hit the ball but to CONSERVE energy.

Lawman lag is monitored in the right forefinger. There should be constant pressure on this first knuckle of the finger throughout. One very important point is once this pressure is lost it is impossible to regain it. Lag is without doubt the secret of golf.

Hi Josh.

I recently came across the site of Andy Brown "The new four magic moves to winning golf" On the first video caption he tells you to forget all that you have been taught about the wrist break. The wrist should break at the begining of the back swing. I won't go into this in detail as I'm a complete novice compared to most people on here. All I say is check it out yourself @

http://www.golfswingsecretsrevealed.com/ index1.htm

What I will say is. My intentions were to go down the golfing range and try it out, but a couple of weeks back during a game, I was starting the back nine, having missed every fairway on the front, I thought, why not try it now. I did, and to my delight, I was hitting the ball crisper than ever, not only that, I was hitting the ball further than I've ever hit it.

I've played twice since with the same success. I can't argue what is right and what is wrong in the motions of a golf swing. All I can say is  (fingers crossed) It is working for me.

So, basically take a book from the 1950's and resell it!! He's not the only one who has used Joe Dante's book as a basis either... I suspect the book is out of copyright and so these people have free rein to pilfer the content.

Did you buy the package Josh, or does it say what the 4 Magic Moves are in the blurb?

Tinman: cut and paste the link to your browser, then take the space between the "/" and "index" out... then press RETURN.

Ref this article anyone have any views on how Ben Curtis appears to breaks wrists really early? Personally I like the feel of this....
Show/hide user stats
ive found it really makes ball striking better if you cock the wrists and hold it and then power it through
Show/hide user stats
I am with the programme on wrist cock as IMO it gets the lag that creates ball striking

BUT I was amazed watching Ben Curtis. He really cocks the wrist early.. I used to do that but stopped because people said that my swing was " handsy"...

IMO opinion doing something that feels comfortable is better than getting hung up on the "perfect swing". I am a good ball striker with natural timing so anything too mechanical is not playing to my strengths....

Ondai i think in recent years the whole perfect swing theory has gone right out the window , what ever gets the club face back square, its whats its all about now

I would not think tomuch about wrist cock, more getting shaft on plane, and hands in front of shaft 1/2 way back. That should put you in the right position.

Trying to force a move can be self destructive, i have done all the early set stuff, i end up just getting very narrow, and a bit inside.

Just watched Ben Curtis at open, there is an early set for you, not pritty (but it worked)

Josh: Agree with perfect swing sentiments.

Oldschool: Actually it's more of an effort to stop my hands breaking early... For me letting the wrists break feels more compact and comfortable.

"...hands in front of club 1/2 way back"..

Assume you mean in front in a North - South Plane (assuming hitting on a East - West plane). Interesting as I think that my hands are behind with current swing....

since ive adopted this earlier wrist cock i have a real problem swining in to out or square to square for that matter, it just feels like thers isnt enough room. im pulling alot of iron shots and fading and slicing the driver, oh and pulling it!

if i dont break wrists early i find it easy to go in to out, but the ball stike is nowhere near as good, any ideas?

Hi Josh,

I try not to give advice in general, but after trying to retain the wrist cock for longer as instructed by my pro I have had the same problems.

I had a lesson today to try to rectify this and was impressed by the results, so it might be worth you giving it a try.

My main problem was my shoulders being open at the point of impact and the solution was at the start of the downswing to get the feeling of keeping my back facing the target and the left arm swinging down on the inside brushing the body.

Possibly of less relevance to you, I had also started to stand a little too close to the ball.

Hope this helps, if not it might be time to see a pro or post a video link for more qualified advice.

defintly standing a bit clsoe to teh ball, the other part makes no sense to me, ive got a few ideas to try played to day and played well, still alot of iron pulls though
