OK, seven shafts 3 regular, 3 stiff and one in between. Which ones come where in the how stiff do they play(not how stiff they are) and ball flight league. If we go stoftest to stiffest and lowest to highest.(I know each make will probably have the same ball flight as the others relatively speaking)

DG R300 and DG S300

Project X 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0

Nippon Pro 1050GH  Regular and Stiff

I know the weight comes into how stiff they play due to SS

Help appreciated from folks in the know.

go and do a search for Hireko Golf and locate their Dynamic Shaft Fitting Index (in fact just search for Dynamic Shaft Fitting Index on the web)....theyve done a huge amount of research and tried to come up with a means of comparing shaft stiffnesses.

What you need to find is chapter 5 of the addendum- the DSFI listings....but make sure you at least give Ch1 thru 4 a good skim read so youve got an idea of what theyre trying to achieve!!! The DSFI rating is effectivel;y a measure of playing stiffness....the higher the number the stiffer the shaft and takes into account torque, butt stiffness, tip stiffness as well as basic weight of the shaft.

Doesnt give info for ball flight though.

 Here...I've done it for you...

they dont list the Nippons though.

Interesting link Fugi...

Never hit Nippons but DG are higher spin shafts and softer with more feel. They are best suited for most peeps games. I would stay away from PX unless you have demoed them for at least a round or two. PX are butt stiff and have less feel and are thus not to everyones taste. They are like Marmite.

If its any help i agree with spine & flo the DGs are good all round shafts im now switching to px though as after some serious demoing of them im knocking the ball 15 yards further than i was with a 6 iron and more accurate too i find the flights better as the spins quite a bit lower side and back. But im off 2 and even my friend whose off 10 finds them horrible and cant do anything with them needs some serious time spent with them and then go on a launch monitor for back up! Hope this helps in some way!

'They are like Marmite' lol

Better stay away then, i hate the bloody stuff!

At the moment i play Apex #3(hogan regulars) equivalent to a lite in DG's i think but may be wrong.

Have only hit Project X at the range in demo irons for about 15mins these were the 6's and i did like them. But i know you need to be swinging well for them. DG's are heavier so think they might take a bit more oomph in the closing holes when tiring and have a higher ball flight - my problem with the Apex's. Hence me trying to find out a bit more about the Nippons. and where they sit in comparison.

From what i remember of the Nippons they were very light not to my taste. But if you like that feel might be ideal for you. I dont think you can beat hitting some balls with all the options get a feel for them then get on a launch monitor hit a good number of balls with each and see whats actually happening i went on the vector monitor and also the trackman and got some results. Fortunately ive got a good local pro got to use it all free and also sent me out on the course to a par 3 where i hit some balls with each same club each shaft saw it for myself.
