i've been playing golf for a few months now anf throughly enjoying it can hardly beleive i was almost 24 yrs old before i picked up a club! im thinking of buying a "decent" set of irons when i return from holiday and i'm looking at a set which offer great forgivness, for obvious reasons! I've narrowed it down to two: Nike Ignite Hybrids, or Mizuno MX-19????? Have any of you guys played with these, or play with these? I'd like some advise before i splurge 270 notes on the irons! Any help or advise is much appreciated. Cheers, Jim

James I've never used either i'm afraid, but even had I and thought one set was the business wouldn't mean they were right for you. Go see a pro and have a fitting.

James I went to the Mizuno fitting centre at Wrexham to be fitted for some new clubs. After I had tried out Mizuno, Wilson and Nike at my club shop I flet that Mizuno felt best so off to wrexham I went. Its a wondeful place and they are extrememly patient with you. You hit balls whilst they monitor it with a radar tracker which monitor spin speed, club head speed, accuracy and distance I play off 24 and the fitter suggested I try MX19's and MX25's. We tried different shafts and I eventually plumped for MX19's. They don't try to sell you the clubs there but send the details to the shop who has booked the fitting. It is then up to you to choose which actual clubs you want/need. I went for 5i to s/w and used them for the first time yesterday and played my best round ever. Ther are other Mizuno centres around the country if Wrexham isn't convenient.

James, I went throuht the same processes as you are at the moment and plumped for the MX-19's just as Keef did. However I tried them up against the slingshots, not the ignites. The best thing to do is to get yourself somewhere that stocks a range and try them out. However don't isolate just those two makes, as you could miss out on the perfect set! Everyone on here speaks highly of the MD irons, and they tend to be cheaper than the OMDs stuff, so they'd also be worth a try. Anther make to consider is snake eyes. I couldn't decide between the mx-19s and the snake eyes irons I tried (can't remember the model, but it's their game improver irons) but plumped for the Mizzies because they were a 3-pw set, rather than a 4-pw (I had decent wedges already!) Enjoy playin wth new shineys! BB

As per my previous thread I'm after new irons and this week I had tried Callaway X-18's, Srixon i-601, King Cobra FP, Wilson Deep Red Power, Taylormade R7 draw, Callaway Big Bertha. Today I went to a demo day as I was wanting to try out a set of Mizuno MX-19's as they were another option. Gave them a shot and I must admit they were good. The guys at the national fitting centre were great, he then suggested to me the MX-950's which I had a go with, and OMG they were beautiful. I couldn't hit a bad shot with them. The strike was amazing and the ball flight was spot on. Totally over my budget but amazing clubs. If you ordered a set today they were giving you a free mizuno wedge (anyone you wanted) and a box of balls (12) of your choice.

johnny the mx-900s are pretty much the same clubs apart from the long irons are hybrids in the mx-950s. i play the mx-900s and i freaking love them. so long

Jonny i'd love the mx-950's but, like you, they're way outta my price range just now. I tried a workmates Cobra FP's out and and loved them so im considering them now. I still havent tried the Nike Ignites out but the range nearby has them so i'm gonna give them a go tomorrow after work. I just checked onlinegolf.co.uk and there's a second hand set of Cobra FP's going for 219 quid and free delivery! The Mx-19's are the favourites just now though - fantastic clubs!

I ordered my Mx-950's yesterday should be here within two weeks. Got the bosses permission to buy them first.

i dont have the words do describe my envy lol let us know once you've had a round with them. Hopefully i will have decided on (and bought) what clubs i wanna splurge on over the next two weeks

I used to play with a set of Nike CPR irons which I assume morphed into the current Ignite irons. The CPRs were really nice, easy to hit and looked nice aswell. The hybrids were awesome so I hope the ignites will be the same.

James. I have played with a few sets of clubs and got on well with all of them Wilson, Mizuno,Cobra and then tried Callaway and i have not looked back i am on my 2nd set i have the X20 and they suit my game dn to a tee. Some advice before you buy any clubs from drivers to putters go and and found a golf range where you can get hold of some demo's and ask to hit them off the grass not the mats and see what kind of feel and feed back you get. Then have them all fitted for you. I had my Taylor made R7 Draw driver fitted and i now hit most fairways,My Callway irons were also fitted and they are superb,My game is now coming on very good.I dropped my Handicap from 20 to 14 in about 5 months, thats playing once a week. Get them fitted and you you will not regret it.

Shifty thanks for the advice. How do i know if the range has demos? Do i call them and ask? Do they charge? I only know a local range has nike ignites there (for sale in the shop) but i'm not sure if they'll allow me to try them?
|
 |
James what part of the UK are you i? As using demos the only they may ask for is ID so you don't run off wth the clubs. If you can't find a golf range to use the grass as a guide then try Nerveda Bobs. I am not a great fan with American Golf but each to ther own. James all i can say is don't go buy off the shelf, if there is any way of trying golf equipment out then do then it will not be so costly.

Shifty i am in Glasgow. Is there a Nevada Bobs in or around Glasgow area?
|
 |
James I'm in Glasgow. There is a Nevada Bob's in Finnieston. I'd suggest going to the World of Golf Driving Range on Great Western Road as you can try out any of the clubs you fancy. I'm sure they have the ignites and loads of others in your price range

Thanks for that Jonny i am in the process of searching the web. Good Luck James Keep me Updated with the outcome.
