Need some clarification: What do yellow/red stakes signify - I know they're hazards but exactly what i.e lateral water hazard? What does this mean? What are rules for losing balls in hazard and where you can drop from yellow/red/o.b Bit cofuddled as to the rules for each. Cheers, A confused Oli!

yellow stakes define a water hazard whereby the ball must be dropped behind the hazard and keeping its position in the hazard in a line with the pin. if you are unable to take a penalty drop behind the position in the hazard then you must replay the shot from the original position. red stakes define a lateral hazard whereby the ball can be dropped at the point of entry to the hazard OB is OB and the ball must be dropped from where it was originally played

Not quite. The ball must be dropped behind the hazard keeping the point where it last crossed the margin of the hazard in line with the hole.

oli Rules & Decisions Have a look at the Definitions for Water Hazards, Lateral Water Hazards and Out of Bounds. Then Rules 26 and 27.

LGL They are exactly the same. Arguably the USGA site is the easier to use. In particular navigating between rules and decisions, as they appear on the same page.
