could do with a link to that walker sounds intresting.

23rd for once i have to disagree with you on this, watch a swing vision of the top pros you will see they still holding the "lag" when there hands are around there right trouser leg pocket. watch the next movement through the ball, thats not naturally happening they are making that happen.

ived increased my distance with my irons by around 20 yards per club recently since ive started holding lag and relasing, you can say its BS but its true for me, though saying that still making me pull! i can not hold the lag and just let them flow through but then im losing loads of distnace and hight, but it goes straight. but id rather sort out the newer swing and have the best of both worlds

Josh, I'm sorry, buddy, but you are wrong. They are not manipulating this move at all. No one can consistently at 110+ MPH. The wrists uncock completely naturally as a result of the dynamic tension built up. It's pure physics. Yes, you can make this move happen to some extent, but it's not the same thing. You're making the mistake od seeing an effect and believing it's a cause.

I'm not suggesting some kind of release drill wont work, but I am saying focusing on the release is a short term measure. The best drill to work on your release is to stick a tee peg in the ground 6 inches after the ball. Stick it right the way in then aim the take it out of the ground after the ball.

another good one is to put a penny on the ground instead of a ball. you can't hit a penny but you can "sweep" a penny and make it fly like the ball. I think this is along the same lines as 23rd Man's idea...

Ok 23rdman So, I went to the range totaly confused! thinking he must be right but im hitting the ball better than ever so he must be wrong!

I decided i would go down the range and prove you wrong! by trying both ways!

so i tried my way and i was striking the ball really well though not as consitntly straight, quite a few pulls.

then i tried your way no forcing the release it was going alot straighter though lower and i was losing distance.

HA i thought i was right 23rd was wrong! I just need to sort my path out.

Then i started trying somthing else i saw in tigers video how he agreesivly starts the down swing with a big hip turn.

It incrased my swing sped and i found it hard to force my release as i was previously, so i tried your way with the new big hip turn, ball was going long and straight, then i rembered that i was forgetting to try and hold the lag as well, which i wasnt doing when i previously tried 23rds way

I started spanking the crap out of it, It was as good as the ball striking was before but about a million times straighter, no more pulls straight and the odd push where i left the face a tad open

and no forced release at all.

It seems i was fousing on the the wrong part of my swing that was giving me the good ball strike, it wasnt eh fored release it was the holding the angle betwen my wrist n shaft.

So as usual 23rd you where totaly right and i was wrong!

So I bow down to your amazing golf knoledge, and cower in your brilliance

Thanks again for helping me imporve my swing for the 5th time, when you start giving lessons ill be your first customer

Oh forogt to mention also first time ever i carried the ball to the 225 marker on the top of the hill at the back of the range ever! on a hill and a range ball thats pretty damn good

Nice one, Josh When I get my arse into gear and take my coaching exams you'll be the 1st to know

Josh, what do you mean when you talk about holding the lag?
Show/hide user stats

i mean when you cock your wrists you have a right angle between your left arm and the shaft.

Holding that, till your hands are around your right trouser pocket, well thats the aim takes strong wrists to hold it that long il have to see on a video how long i hold it, but its definatly loinger than i used to

I agree that a good swing means that no concious effort or forced movement of release is neccesary. But I also think that to be an advanced golfer you must be able to have that mind body connection of i.e mind & wrists release. You should be able to feel exactly what your wrists/hands are doing & where they are mid swing & it is a great advantage to have the ability to manipulte this even if you never do it in your swing. To have that feeling of precise control in your hands & adjustment is something that is valuable to have though not neccesary part of a good basic swing.

Also on a full swing there is no need for any concious release, but for a part/slow swing wedge IMO there is need for a proper concious left hand release & left arm turning over to aid release

ps why are we talking about right hand release, for a right handed golfer IMO its more important to think about left hand release & left arm turning over.
