Not sure if this is the right forum however need a bit of advice.

I'm thinking about losing the 3 wood from the bag. Already got rid of the 3 iron so l was thinking of getting a hybrid at a decent cover loft, removing the 4 iron which can mean I can carry that, driver and then 5 thru' wedge.

Anyone got any thoughts on this strategy?

Am I stupid for trying this? Issue is that I very rarely use the 3 wood, 3 iron or 4 iron on the course I play regulary.

Also, if I go for it not too sure what loft at the moment, reckon maybe between 20-24 deg.

Any thoughts?

OK. Calm down. IMO the 3-wood has a value because there are many very long Par 3's, any amount of doglegs and shorter Par 4's with narrow fairways that bring this club into play. You can replace your 3 iron with a 21 degree rescue club and the 4 iron with a 24 degree rescue. The 21 degree rescue is very close to the 5 wood so you might consider getting a 17 degree 4-wood to replace it. Now you would have a much better and even separation of lofts and a greater flexibilty in how you can employ them.

I tried Driver, 16deg TM rescue and 21deg Sonartec rescue then 5 iron down...............

It was fine but still wasn't completely happy!  So now play Driver, 17deg 4 wood cleveland launcher and 23deg TM Rescue Fairway 7 wood.................then 5 iron down.

This set up i currently love!! 4 wood is easy off the tee and fairway and the 7 wood is even easier!! i use the 7 wood on some short par 4's from the tee (it's usually 200 yards guaranteed straight!).

However you could probably get away with Driver then Hybrid if thats what you fancy around your course, as you say the 3 wood , 3 & 4 iron are rarely used!!

Give it a go..........you have nothing to lose.

i've settled on replacing my 3 & 5 woods and 3 iron with a new 3w, and two utilities. probably a 18º & 21º & 3W G10. Just need to sell my spare skis first to fund my wee project.

There's no point carrying a club you feel uncomortable with. There's always another way to get there.

3W for most amateurs should be restricted to tee use - most of us would be better off laying up than going for the green from long distance, and if you're not going for the green, why not 3H + full PW (or indeed 5I + 8I) instead of 3W + half a PW?
