Hi guys, Just got back from my first round of 18 ever. I started golf in around May and have been playing pitch and putts, short 9 hole courses and alot of time on the range. Getting the basics right was my priority and today it came into play. I went around in 106. What do you think? I was quite pleased it was a 6600 yd course and is quite tough. It was a bloody long walk though Excuse the pointless thread just wanted some opinions. I didn't use a driver, my longest club was a 5 wood which carrys 215ish with range balls. I'm not going to use a driver before I get lessons to be taught how to use one as I tried it a few times and didn't get on hit one with it! I did see one strange thing though on a long par 4 I found a Pro V1x buried in its own pitch mark (crater), and I mean the top 2-3mm of the ball were just visible on the fringe of the green, the owner must have been annoyed and it looked like a great shot! Thanks

Thats a great result. Even better considering you only started playing in May!
Have you had lessons or just been learning as you go along?

Woodsie, congrats and welcome to the addiction that is golf It sounds like you have a sensible plan, IMO you are going about it the right way. You might consider a few lessons early on to allow you to concentrate on the correct fundamentals. btw 106 for your first try is pretty good.

woodsie -106 great score -bet you found 18 a lot different from your normal 9 holes-welcome tothe big boys club -lol seiously well done and remember dont get frustrated when yougo over that 106 as will happen -alot more holes for things to go wrong but more holes to hit pefect shots but you will get there and bet next year you are on saying you have broken 100

106 is a very good for the length of time playing. You'll easily be breaking the magic 100 barrier. Just dont expect to shoot lower every round! Golf has a habit of kicking you in the nutz.

thats a good score mate !! my first round was 136 then i hoverd arond the 100 mark for a while till i improved.. keep at it
|

Well done Woodsie for not going striaght out onto a 18 hole before you at least got some idea of what was going on.I got stuck behind a 4 ball yesterday ,and they must have taken 7 shots each before they were out of range .Just as well it was the last hole. 106 on your maiden voyage was great, watch out Tiger!

Nice one. Keep up with the practice and you will see your score coming down.

106, no driver, just started - Excellent. I have played for years, currently off 12 and had a 98 today . Perhaps it is a good thing it was closing day. As the other guys have said don't expect it week in week out but you WILL get better. The most important thing is to enjoy yourself.

well dones that brilliant i think the first 18 i ever played i got 135 keep pratcing and them scores will tumble, how was your putting and chipping?
|
 |
I played the other day and shot 119. Well done woodsie on your 106 on your first 18 - keep up the good work and remeber as most have already said don't expect it week in week out.

Thanks guys, its reassuring to see that you think I am doing good, I intend to continue the practise as my pitching wasn't the best but that will come with experiance. Josh, Putting and Chipping I was quite happy with, I think I 3 putted twice which is never good for confidence but it happens! The better quality greens also make the putts alot faster then the pitch and putts! Pengwyn, I think I will get a lesson or two in just to iron out any inconsistencies.

as vader once said "impressive most impressive"
|
 |
Keep it up Woodsie, soon be under 100.

Nice one, but don't get too infatuated on what your scoring at the moment, just enjoy the course your playing and enjoying being out there, IMO this is more important than what you shoot on the day. Never the less for a first 18 that's very impressive watch out Tiger
