Many thanks to Mal for organising another enjoyable day out and to Peter, Dave and Mal for their excellent company.  My driving was the key to the good scoring today, only missed a 2 or 3 fairways and with some solid iron play managed to rack up the points. I've got a lesson booked this week because I've not been happy with my driving. I may well be cancelling that now .  Again, well done to Mal, your efforts are much appreciated.

and............  Ladies, Gentlemen and Chris Curry

DEC even had the audacity to call that an unplayable lie.........

I figure if I can take a reasonably clear photo of the ball in situ you should be able to thwack it with a bit bit of steel / titanium / carbon composite............

(The fact that to get contact would be going the wrong way up the fairway is irrelevant!!!!!!)

I was protecting my score.

You should've watched Dave Pelz on The Golf Channel UK. He showed the basic technique for a lie like that.

Best club for a lie like that?

Another great GM day - weather was certainly better arranged (well done Mal) Good company with Martin, Terry and Craig and had a few laughs (and grizzles) during the round.

No excuses for my round - just forgot where the centre of the clubface was, thins and sh**ks prevailed.

Lovely part of the world, was sorely tempted to pop into Melton Mowbray, for a couple of pies and some Stilton on the way home  but the traffic was building up - - next time.

Thanks again Mal

Thanks to all who came to Rutland Water and particularly to Mal Smith who organised the event. Caused him a few grey hairs with 'no shows' but finished up with four compatible four-balls.

Thanks, too, to the guys at TaylorMade who supplied a cap or visor to every competitor. ED

What a great day. Huge thanks to Mal for organising it, hard to see how it could have been any better run.

Nice to see a few familiar faces and some new ones.

Well done to Black Cat - I didn't think 37 points was possible in the wind and on greens with more slopes than St. Moritz.

Thanks to my playing partners Dec, Fengibbon and Stickman for making the day even more enjoyable. We had plenty of laughs on the way round and not always at Dec!

Thanks to Bob for getting Taylor Made to cough up some freebies, my cap was comandeered by my good lady as soon as I got home.

To anyone who's ever thought of attending a GM golf day but is yet to do so I can only say that you really are missing out.

Who would want ruin a perfectly good piece of willow on a shot like that!

Thank you all for your support, and for your kind words - it's good to think that we had such an enjoyable day with such s..t scores (the elite excluded).  Look forward to the next one.  There will be report soon.

Just to add to what everynoe else has said. Thanks Mal for organising everything. Flatter greens next time would be preferred. I hit what I considered to be my best every chip shot from just off the green onto to a ridge on the green, only then to watch it roll down the said ridge and then a good three meters past the hole ! Apparently the greens were of varing pace, can't be too sure of this as I only putted on about half of them.

I was amazed to find that my 26 points was not too shabby compared to some others. Was a pleasure to play with the eventual winner who showed us how to play a pretty difficult course in tricky conditions. I'd like to play it again when it's matured a bit & I've cured myself of the dreaded shanks. Thanks to  Mal for organising the event, never easy at the best of times & even more difficult when people are dropping out at the last moment. I would hate to putt on those greens when they get a bit quicker !!!

Con-tact on that ball in the bush on 10 would have been good!

It wasn't  meant to be personal Dec, just a relief that I wasn't the only one playing crap

I know it wasn't personal Peter. That's why I put a  smilie.

I played crap but I had a nice day which is what counts.

Great day - pleasure to meet you guys and many thanks for the invitation Bob. The course designer, Ben Stephens, is a friend of mine and I will be having a word with him this Sunday on my Presidents Day and will pass on all your comments on his greens (all of which I totally agree with!)
