Hey Ian,

How many times have you played Remedy Oak? And are you sure those fee's are current too??

Twice and no, I can't confirm that they are current....ring and ask 'em!

How about Swinley Forest?

With a membership as elite as this clubs rumoured to have, I bet it is either very expensive or stupidly cheap!

Ian

It's a very good course isn't it? Only spolit by one or two very ordinary holes amoungst the majority that are very good indeed.

Reason I asked about the fee's is that what you posted looked wrong based on what I know a friend who has just joined paid you see....

Ben

With Swinley the membership cost shared every year. In a good year the members will end up paying an amount that is silly cheap given how fine the course is.....or on a not so good year the fee will be quite a bit higher.

However I don't think the cost is the issue there....just getting in and staying there is what it is all about!!

Can't tell you how relieved I am to see Wentworth is only £8,000 per year and not the £15,000 previously mentioned.

Just saw this about the poor state of the golf industry in Scotland, which backs up the earlier rumour I heard about Loch Lomond being in trouble. Doesn't sound good for the industry in general!

Archerfield just outside Edinburgh is £30k to simply join and a few grand a year after that so its not just the big Championship courses which charge ridiculous rates

How many of these course even come close to justifying these ridiculous fees though?

Theres obviously a need for certain courses to offer such exclusivity because there are people in the world who will think nothing of splashing out so much money (for us mere mortals) for their passtime - but they will only pay for exclusivity.

There are also the resort type courses in the USA which again there is at least a reasoning behind the cost.

But surely there cant be that many courses with such fees that actually warrant it, in terms of quality of course layout and test of golf. Is there???

seems a lot, bets not check the japanese prices! all course over there cost £100,000s if not millions to join
