Will a new job improve my golf?

As the title may suggest, I am going to start a new job/contract in a weeks time. I will be based in a converted barn/farm type place in the countryside with little or nothing to do in my lunch break. No shops to go to, obviously walks in the countryside etc but there is a driving range two minutes down the road. So, if I pop in there everyday and bash some balls around will my golf improve? You bet it will. Hope they do a deal on the amount of tokens that I will be buying.

I was in two minds about taking the job but when considering it is way more money and my golf will improve, the decision was easy.

Anyone else go to a driving range at lunchtime?

Sheesh... how long do you get for your lunch ????

By the time I have had a cup of coffee, a bite to eat and a quick flurry on this forum its lunch break over.

Best of luck with your new job and may the driving range be kind to you.

Paul,

I will get an hour for lunch, this should suffice as I will be able to eat my lunch before/after the range.

I have a feeling this forum will have to be put on the backburner, well at least during the day but you never know.

Thx for the best wishes for the job and range.

no range here, but lots of sea gulls flying about barking at the top of their lungs... maybe i should take aim with my driver at those noisy buggers during my lunch

Why put the forum on hold?  I go out the office for 1 hour then surf for the other 8 while fitting some work in and around the internet

Richard, that is what I do at the moment (although not for nine hours, I try to keep it down to 6 max) but there is only so much that I want to look at on the Internet (whilst at work anyway) so it can get a bit boring until a thread with lots of argy bargy comes along to spice things up.

On the new job front, another firm are now interested in taking me on, I have let them fight over me and up'ed the rate significantly. So it looks like I may not be getting the range sessions that I thought (as I will most likely take the other offer) but at least with that one I can sit on the beach in the sun with all those beautiful girls during my lunch!

Started new job on Monday, the one by the range, and have been down there every lunchtime this week

Monday, took 56*,PW,9I, hit 50 balls and practiced pitches and full shots went very well.

Tuesday,75 balls, took 3w and 1w, firstly concentrated on 3w and to find the ideal ball position and height, then concentrated on hitting straight shots before fades and draws. Driver, did the same, then with the last 20 balls decided to really wind it up with a slow back swing and max downswing, they were hitting around the end of the range(250yds) and nice and straight

Today,75 balls, took 8i to 4i, again firstly concentrated on ball position and then trying to not cock my wrists until the 8/9'oclock position and found these were going nicely with an extra 10yds or so from the early wrist cock shots.

Everyday I have come of the range feeling very good about my game and cannot wait to transfer this to the course on Saturday.

Only downside that I can find from all this practice is that the range doesn't have a practice green to practice my putting.

with all the money that you'll be giving them, they might be able to afford to build one

Slugger, £3.50 for 75 balls or 10 tokens for £29, this will last me two weeks but if this gets me down to single figures, it will be money well spent.

The club where I am a member is cheaper but it is 30 mins drive away, don't think boss will be up for that.

Update:

After the 1st week on the range I felt very good about my game, so I was looking forward to Saturday. What a plonker, went out and got drunk on the Friday turned up with minutes to spare and played like a plonker.

2nd week on the range again went very well and my main focus has been on my backswing. I have been concentrating on a slower backswing and keeping the club head as low to the ground for as long as possible and cocking the wrists at around 8 o'clock. This has caused me to a) have a steadier downswing and I am hitting the ball at 85-90% unintentionally, b) much more accurate shots. I have been doing this with every club. Feeling very good again and went to the course last Sunday morning. Shot my best ever score, gross 76, wow wow wee wee as Borat would say. In that score, I had 2 birdies, 1 double bogey, a penalty drop and 5 x 3 putts! It could have been sooo much better. I was ecstatic afterwards and had a couple of beers to celebrate. The only downside I could see was that it wasn't a comp that day! Blimey, think I might of got lynched in the clubhouse hitting gross 76 off 14!!

At the range every lunch time again this week and still feeling bloody good about my game and this weekend it is the monthly medal, can't wait.
