Saw some amazing golf yesterday

A friend and regular playing companion came to my course as my guest, he's played it a couple of times before so knows it.

We only managed 12 holes because of rain, but in those 12 holes off the back tees he had 6 birdies and an eagle!! Our better ball was 9 under.

He's a very good golfer but doesnt get time to play much, and thats the best I've ever seen him play. Was a pleasure to watch! Some days the golf gods give you a break.

I took your advice yesterday Creo and bought a TM Burner and literally burnt up my golf course, the added distance off the T brought my second shots to the green to between 8 and 9 irons where before they were 5 and 6, (the course is long).   Here is hoping that it keeps that way and it was not just "the gods giving me a break" -

What's the course record creo ? assuming no bogie's that score could have been up there for an unofficial record wasn't he tempted to play on

Amateur record is 66 (-6) but we arent allowed to use the far back tees except in comps, and on several holes it makes a difference. I made a freudian mistake when I posted, I should have said white tees, not back tees. Yep, he was thinking of playing on but time was tight and I doubt we'd have had time to finish anyway. My friend was more keen that he was playing well than trying to create an unofficial record!

-9 on 12 holes is fantastic! What handicap does he play off? He should definitely be playing more and be thinking of turning pro.

He must have been in the zone, Creo - much the same as Ross Fisher, whom I've just seen shoot 64 at the London Club including six successive birdies for 30 on the back nine of the Nicklaus course. He almost drove the par-4 9th (his 18th) which is 448 yards. His second shot was a 35-yard chip to 3ft.

Must be a great feeling when, pro or amateur, you feel you can't stop flushing the ball and seeing the hole as big as a bucket. I once remember flushing half a dozen successive 4-irons on the range 20 years ago (but failed to take it to the course) and about two years ago having an excellent scrambling round. But as with most of us, I'm sure, our games come and go so briefly we never know which one is going to turn up on any given day. Respect to anyone who can shoot under par without the aid of a handicap. ED

I can't claim to have played to par ever, I once was thinking of joining a club and asked if I could play a round with a member to try it out. I turned up with my handicap of 17 and we played off the white tees as there was another guy who was a new member who was putting in a card for handicapping. Never having played the course, I was blissfully unaware of where trouble lurked, and carded a gross 7 over (1 over on the back nine).

I subsequently joined the club, where my handicap promptly went up to 18!

Aaaaw, Creo - when I opened the thread I thought it was going to be a report from a pro-celeb charity golf day

i love the Zone, ive been in it a few times, recently shooting par n breaking it.  found it for a few holes yesterday, then lost it again.

my best ever was on a pratice hole, when i found the golfing god, and was striking the ball amazingly well, i thought i was on teh road to cat 1 heaven. then the golfign god came down while i was asleep an erased how to do it from my memory

....Crikey Creo, no pressure for me then......for my visit to your course next week!

Nine pars and nine bogeys will do me just fine......that`s provided  I`ve got 27 holes to actually hit that target, of course!

(Can you find an old  `digger/hacker` to join us for a three-ball.... so as to make me look really good.) .

A couple of months ago I saw a friend birdie 7 holes in a row, so I am not unduly surprised that he won the Open qualifying heat he played in yesterday with a 67. I've shot under par maybe 20-25 or so times, but only once would I say I was "in the zone", the rest were just grind and holing some putts!

THats sweet.

I look forward to finding the zone while lurking in the winderness.

I've found the zone before. The "NO FLY" zone that is... )

Josh - I must balance things up by admitting that I can also hack as badly as anyone else. When I'm good I am fairly good, when I am bad I am absolutely bloody terrible. I'm not sure the capacity to Shamble ever really leaves any of us.

true of me to ive hit shots so bad, its embrassing normally infront of other people when im playing through or on the 1st tee

Only been in the zone twice, I thought I was there yesterday after narrowly missing an eagle putt - but a triple bogey on the 2nd soon said otherwise

My first medal after my layoff on Sat - I managed a magnificent 32 over! Couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo at the moment!
