I use Callaway Warbirds - £11.99 a dozen and not bad at all.

Certainly the best budget ball, and on a par with Srixon Softfeel and AD333

I've used those too and you're right, for real bargain basement they aren't bad at all. Unfortunately it means having to visit Sports World but you can't have everything.

Titleist have been the No1 ball in golf as long as I can remember. I used to be a golf ball snob and would only play Titleist. But I have got over myself now and will play any ball that I can get for free. However although I would say Titleist is still the best ball, you'd better be able to keep it in play at £4 a ball as it hurts even more when you lose it.

I've just bought a box of 12 pearl Callaway HX hot lake balls from my local tescos for £9! They also had the callaway reds and some nike balls. I think that'd be a good way to try out some different balls!

Hmmm, you'd be amazed how many amateurs start with Pro-V1's decide that they need to find out more for themselves go through taylormade, nike, bridgestone, callaways, and after some very expensive tinkering end up back with a more convinced view of the Pro V1's.

I'd support Creo's view that most top amateurs have been through this loop and ended where they started.

I'd also point anyone with a strong view towards Jack Nicklaus and his assessment.  If you control your distance/shot selection with spin, then the ball is vital to you.  If you control it with trajectory, then the ball will make much less difference.  So have a think.

BB, you say you Bought the Callaway Pearls? Do you know that they are a Ladies Ball for Ladies? I'm not saying theres anything wrong with that, BUT thay are For Ladies!

Sorry, slipping into ebay jargon mode there! By pearl I meant that they were in 'as new' condition!

However having now just played (very badly!) with them I have decided I prefer the So/LO's I was using before!

I'd offer them up for people on here, but I *cough, ough*haven't got many left *cough, cough*

(It was bloody windy out there today!)
