Got a mate 1 h/c who is training to join the Senior Tour in a few years - he says to me the other day "I'm off to the range to hit 1000 balls with my driver" - I was so stunned I didn't ask why? or how? All I know is if I tried it I'd be going straight to hospital in traction after 1 bucket!

Used to practice at a range where you could load up a card with 1000 balls, you then put the card in the machine and it automatically teed up balls for you until you eject the card. I usually found that after 125 I started to loose interest and was just smashing balls for the sake of it. So always limited myself to 100 at a time after that. I know some pros will spend 4 to 5 hours a day on the range. Watched Monty on a range once, he would hit 3 or 4 balls, then have a little break, chat to mates, then hit another 3 or 4.

I'm quite a big hitter but I'd swap that for being consistently straight anyday. Anyway, a few weeks ago at the range the bloke in the next bay fired a low drive which managed to hit the steel rim of one of the chipping nets about 30 yards out. The ball rebounded and came screaming back into the bays, hit the notice board on the back wall (cracking the perspex cover), bounced wildly through 3 or 4 bays and landed on the mat at the feet of another bloke two bays up. The guy who hit it apologised, said he'd done that before ( !) and asked if he could have the ball back!!

Well it might be his lucky ball...

Around 10 kilometres give or take and still going (maybe). Hit a phenomenal slice into the back of a builders truck who was leaving the next door riding school. Don't know if he's found it yet 'cos I haven't seen him since...
